Both the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan shopping portal and the United Airlines Mileage Plus shopping portal are offering 20 miles per dollar at Ebags.com. American is offering 18x and Delta 12x. To me, Alaska is the standout value here since Alaska miles are so valuable. If you’re thinking about an eBags purchase, this payout might tip the scales.

Quick Thoughts

Note that we often see pretty high payouts for eBags purchases — one can usually count on 15-20% cash back and it is not common for mileage payouts to increase to 15-20 miles per dollar. See the best rate history at CashBackMonitor.

That said, we don’t often see a payout of 20x from Alaska, which in most instances awards a few less miles per dollar than other portals. Alaska miles can be great for travel to Australia (55K one-way in business class) and/or the Asia-Pacific region (from 50K one-way in business class to Asia or from 60K / 70K in first class). See Alaska’s various partner award charts here. Also keep in mind that Alaska allows a free stopover on one-way awards, which is where the value of miles can really shine.

Of course, if you have a valuable use in mind, earning 20x United or 18x American miles could also be good payouts. I wouldn’t bother with Delta at 12x since you could alternatively earn 18% cash back.
