Update 4/17/19: Visa gift cards are back in stock and can be added to your cart successfully. They seem to have been going in and out of stock for several days, so if they’re out of stock when you try, check again later.
Update: The $300 denomination cards are showing as being in stock, but when adding them to the cart it says they’re out of stock. That seems to be the case for the $200 and $100 denominations too.
Last week we published a post advising that all Mastercard and Visa gift cards had been out of stock at Staples.com for several days.
We weren’t sure at the time whether that was a temporary issue with their stocking levels or if both types of cards were being removed from sale for some reason.
A couple of days later, most of the Mastercard and Visa gift cards were back on the site but the most popular denomination – $300 Visa gift cards – were still out of stock. They’re now finally back in stock, so this is your heads up that you can now buy $300 Visa gift cards again on Staples.com.
Gift Card Mall is no longer activating gift cards for Visa cards bought on Staples.com. There is confusion both at Staples and GCM as to what’s going on. Very frustrating at this time. Suggest people wait on ordering cards until the process is figured out!!!! Had to talk to several different agents at both places before finding someone who helped me activate a couple of orders after researching what was happening!
Just had a second order cancelled after about 10 days yet the 300s still show in stock. Anyone getting shipping confirmations?
Just re-ordered but the 200s this time. I’ll see……
Ignore – I figured it out with the other articles; thanks. (Why do I want these gift cards? The only reason I can think of is if somehow it lets you post charges to a new cc where you have to churn some dollars to meet a spending limit. Otherwise, I have no clue.)
The Chase Ink Plus/Cash cards earn 5x Ultimate Rewards at office supply stores and many people value UR at 2cpp or greater. That means that buying these VGCs and liquidating them fairly cheaply means they’re paying ~3% to get ~10% of value.
Thank you Steve, even though I figured it out at the high level, very helpful details. Now to figure out which if any of my CCs would fit the circumstances.
They showed inventory on 4/14. I placed order then and got confirmation. But still, as of now, no shipping confirmation on that order.
Last time I placed an order on 4/8 I also got order confirmation only to get order cancellation notice on 4/12.
Has anyone actually gotten a shipping confirmation recently? To me they’re not in stock until someone gets that.

Does this Qualify for the 5x from chase ink?
I think those payments are processed by GiftCardMall rather than Office Depot, so you wouldn’t earn 5x.
I submitted two orders the day before this post… They showed as in-stock and orders went through fine. I got confirmation emails and I’ve seen pending charges on my CC since the 8th.
… Annnd received a voicemail call today from Staples saying that my orders can’t be fulfilled as they are/were out of stock.
Phantom inventory!!
if chase biz cards were no longer earns 5x, there will be plenty in stock at all times, lol
I asked via chat when the Visa GCs will be restocked and the rep didn’t know when but he assured me they’ll be restocked since they’ve not been taken out of inventory.
Thanks all – I’ve updated the post to show that they’re not in stock after all.
And already back out of stock
Still out of stock.
“! We’re sorry, the following item is out of stock. Please see below some alternate choices”.
As of right now.
Yup. out of stock
Last time I bought these online from staples they were not able to be liquidated at Walmart for MO’s. Has that been everyone else’s experience as well?
No.
Perhaps you didn’t allow enough time after activation?
