Quick Thoughts
I don’t often fly Alaska, but man I’m almost tempted by this because of the recent opportunity they offered to convert wallet funds to miles at a cost of $0.01 per mile. I said almost. I’m not going to spend four hundred and fifty bucks hoping they bring that deal back.
I’m further uninterested in this deal because, even though we now have an Alaska Companion Fare code thanks to a recent credit card sign up, last year they began requiring that you purchase the paid fare for that with the associated Alaska Airlines credit card. I don’t believe (though feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) that you can use wallet funds in conjunction with that.
However, for someone who is based in a major Alaska market, particularly those on the west coast, saving 10% on airfare looks like a good deal to me (assuming you are a Costco member). I believe that Costco Executive members would even get 2% back on top, sweetening the deal a bit further.
