Update: This offer was accurate at the time of publication, but has since expired. Please see our Best Offers page for current offer information.

Citi has once again increased the signup bonus on the Citi ThankYou Premier to 50,000 ThankYou points after making $4,000 in purchases in the first 3 months. While not quite the historical high on this card, this is about as good as it typically gets.

The Offer

  • Earn 50,000 ThankYou points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months

Key Card Details

  • $95 annual fee is waived the first year
  • Earn 3X travel and gas
  • Earn 2X dining and entertainment
  • Earn 1x everywhere else

Quick Thoughts

Keep in mind that Citi will not give you the signup bonus if you have opened or closed a card within a card family within the past 24 months. This means that if you have opened or closed this card or the Citi ThankYou Preferred or Citi Prestige card within the past 24 months, you are not eligible for the signup bonus. It is not completely clear how upgrades/downgrades/product changes affect the 24-month clock, though our theory is that if your product change stayed within the same card family and your card number did not change, you are likely eligible to receive the signup bonus again. The best strategy moving forward is probably to close whatever needs closing after opening a new card. For example, if you have a Citi Prestige that is more than 24 months old and you open this ThankYou Premier card now, you might consider closing or product changing the Prestige soon after (if that’s your ultimate plan for the card) since we know your 24-month clock will be reset by the Premier approval. See Citi’s new speed limit: 135,000 points per year from signup bonuses for more on this topic.

With the additions of Turkish Airlines and Avianca LifeMiles as transfer partners in the past year, this signup bonus has become a bit more attractive. While the Prestige has had a 75K signup bonus in recent months, that bonus did require $7,500 in spend. Unless you’re holding out to see that offer return, this looks like a nice signup bonus if you’re looking to pad your ThankYou points balance.

As always, you can find a link to this offer on our Best Offers page.

Hey , just to confirm here, I currently have the Citi Thank You Premier card, and have had it for 2+ years. I want to apply for the same card to earn the bonus. If I am approved for it, can I then immediately product change my original Premier to the Preferred card, and still be eligible for the sign up bonus? And, I can still pool my points from the converted Preferred card to my new Premier card and thus be able to use the transfer partners, and they would not be subject to an expiration policy, correct?

dan

getting approved for a citi cc nowadays is much harder; although had not applied for over a yr, but just denied for this with a reason that credit report shows more than 6 inquiries since last yr; no reconsideration nor xfer credit from another citi card is possible & was told to look for the letter; fico score is above 700 & in good standing with ciit…any folks has suggestion or advice how to successfully get it reconsidered? TIA

Rob

I already have a Prestige and Premier, both more than 2 years old. Would they approve me for a second Premier and pay the sign up bonus?

Hi Nick,
I current have a Citi ThankYou Preferred card which opened 3 years ago. Am I eligible to get this bonus if I sign up the Citi ThankYou Premier card?

Is there any easy way online to check when you’ve opened/closed cards?

Sayeed

Just so I understand, I had a TY Premier for over 3 years. I product changed it to a Double Cash 3 months ago. The card number did change. Does this mean I’m not eligible for this bonus? Are there any data points to support this?

Ben

Does ATT Access More card count as same card family?
