A new targeted Amex Offer came out today for The Leading Hotels of the World: Spend $300 or more, get $60 back (enrollment required). I think this may work out as a nice (unofficial) stack for many people since I expect that a number of properties are included in the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts program.
The Deal
- There is a new Amex Offer out today for $60 back when you spend $300 or more at Leading Hotels of the World [targeted, enrollment required]
Key Terms
- Expires 1/31/21
- Only valid for Leading Hotels of the World properties in the US, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean
- Reservations must be made online at lhw.com or by calling 1-800-745-8883
Quick Thoughts
I’ve not stayed at a Leading Hotels of the World property. One Mile at a Time explains LHW as sort of a marketing group that loosely ties together a bunch of independent properties like Small Luxury Hotels of the World (a partner of World of Hyatt).
However, in One Mile at a Time’s post about how LHW’s loyalty program (Leaders Club) became free to join this year (and it comes with some maybe decent perks like free continental breakfast and the potential to earn a pre-arrival upgrade after your first stay), Ben noted that many Leading Hotels of the World properties are available on Virtuoso. By extension, I assume that likely means that many of them are also available via Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts.
If you do find a Leading hotel in the FHR program, this could potentially make for a good stack for rates paid at the hotel. I bolded that part because I do not expect this offer would stack with the new Amex Platinum card benefit of $200 back on a prepaid Fine Hotels & Resorts booking since those prepaid rates are charged differently through Amex Travel. However, if you are booking a rate paid at the hotel, despite offer terms that make it sound like the offer won’t trigger, I have always had success with Amex Offers like this one working in that type of situation.
I’d therefore expect this deal to be particularly useful on a multi-night stay. Use your Amex credit for one prepaid night and then make another booking for a subsequent night or nights. Keep in mind that you may not get a fresh $100 credit for the second reservation, but you should get free breakfast for two daily, free Wi-Fi and late checkout.
If you having a Leading Hotels of the World booking in mind, getting sixty bucks back certainly isn’t a bad deal, though I probably won’t seek one out just to use the offer.
[…] Update 11/16/21: Deal is back and valid until 1/31/22. Hat tip to FM […]
Do you guys have a primer on FHR bookings, the $200 credit, and how to use the credit from multiple cards while stacking any other offers?
Thanks for this post Nick!
I used to ignore AMEX FHR ($$$$) but then booked the Park Hyatt Vienna for December (Christmas Markets) with the 3rd night free along with the Annual $200 Platinum benefit and the recent $150 AMEX Offer. Free Breakfast should mean something there.
Question on LHR in general:
I pre-paid and got AMEX +5x MRs so will not earn WoH points. Would I earn these WoH points (and not the +5x MRs) if booked as “pay at Hotel”?Assuming this is the LHR trade-off.
For clarity’s sake for others reading the comments, you’re talking about “FHR” (Fine Hotels & Resorts), the Amex premium booking tool, not “LHR” (I don’t want someone to be confused and think that your Park Hyatt reservation has anything to do with Leading Hotels of the World).
Good news: you’ll get Hyatt points whether prepaid or post paid when you’re booking a Fine Hotels and Resorts or The Hotel Collection property. You would not get points if you just booked a regular Hyatt through amextravel.com, but you do get World of Hyatt points whether prepaid or paid at the hotel through those two specific programs.

Thanks for the clarification. That “LHR” was a typo on my part.
Great that I can get MRs and WoH points!
When booking this on AMEX FHR, I could only enter 9 digits max of my 10 digit WoH Loyalty Partner (my last digit is actually a letter). Reservation does not show up on my WoH account as a booking. Maybe handle this at the hotel?
I had wondered about the same AMEX Offer for Preferred Hotels. I booked a PH room thru the AMEX travel portal for the $200 Plat credit but am hoping the AMEX PH Offer will stack once at the hotel for dining charged to the room.
It should. I assume you booked your Preferred Hotels property through Fine Hotels & Resorts or The Hotel Collection (necessary for the $200 Plat credit). However you booked it, money spent at the hotel and paid at the front desk should definitely trigger the Amex Offer.
Yes, thru FH&R. They are including a free DINNER along with b’fast etc as the “Experience” crefit so did very well booking thru them that I wasn’t expecting.
That’s great that AMEX/PH will recognize the Offer for room charges even though I didn’t book the room itself thru PH. Thx!
