On the heels of yesterday’s 4x Apple promotion at the American Airlines shopping portal, today brings an even better payout at 8 miles per dollar at the United MileagePlus Shopping portal!
Note the portal terms for Apple purchases, bolding mine for emphasis:

Rewards are issued by this site, not Apple. Apple AirPods are not eligible for reward. Newly released products may not be eligible for reward. I do not know what constitutes a “newly released product”. Take this into consideration when planning your purchase.

Normally when they release a new phone, etc it’s not eligible until stock levels meet demand. In the past the T&C said specific things like “Not eligible on iPhone 7” for example.
My guess for the newly released product is any product that was released in the last 90 days or less.
Are you basing that on something? I’d love to have a clearer picture of how they define that for future posts.
