Quick Thoughts
The Visa and Mastercard virtual cards come with a $5.95 purchase fee, so even if you value the $5 Giftcards.com gift cards as good as cash, you’ll still be paying a $0.95 net fee.
This is a better deal on some other brands like Airbnb and Google Play, especially seeing as the purchase should track through a shopping portal even though you’re using a promo code. I’m fairly confident about it tracking because Giftcards.com sent notification of this promotion to affiliates which means they are paying commission on this offer.
Be sure to check GCX (formerly Raise) for gift cards you’re interested in though. The Pepper Rewards app has been offering ludicrous (and unsustainable) deals in recent months for heavy hitters, such as 30% back on many formerly-high value gift card brands like Home Depot. As a result, you can often get substantial discounts on those brands via GCX, even if you don’t have access to those increased deals in the Pepper app.
Giftcards.com is also giving a straight 10% off a wide range of other gift cards when using promo code SHAMROCK which can also be found at the above link; that offer is due to end on March 17.

What is Home Depot a “formerly high value” GC?
Discounts on Home Depot gift cards used to be few and far between, so the largest discount was usually 9.1% when they’d sell $110 cards for $100 a couple of times per year. That meant you could usually resell them for ~90% to gift card reselling groups.
For the last few months though, the Pepper Rewards app has been offering ever-increasing rates on them for heavy hitters, going as high as 30% back. Pepper will no doubt be losing money on those deals, but it means that resale rates have dropped to ~75%-78%, so they’re no longer regarded as high value cards for resale purposes.
