Frontier has decided to troll Southwest following the announcement by the latter last week of several changes that’ll soon take place, the most notable of which was that Southwest will no longer offer two free checked bags as standard.
Frontier is doing this by offering a free checked bag when using promo code FREEBAG, as well as free Economy Bundles for all nonstop flights booked by March 24, 2025.

Quick Thoughts
This is a smart promotion by Frontier as there are many disappointed Southwest passengers mourning the recently announced changes who might be willing to jump ship plane and give Frontier a chance. While Frontier doesn’t have the greatest reputation for a lot of people, being able to get a free checked bag, free carry on, free assigned seating and free flight changes at least helps ensure you’re not going to be nickeled and dimed when booking flights for this spring and summer.
Be sure to note that there are two different offers here with different promotion dates. The free Economy Bundle – which is what offers the free carry on, seat assignments and flight changes – is valid for flights from now through August 18, 2025. The free checked bag on the other hand is only valid for flights from May 28 through August 18. That May 28 date might seem a little random initially, but it’s because that’s the date that Southwest will start charging for checked bags.
Although the two offers are valid on flights through August 18, you do have to book them by March 24 in order to be eligible. The free Economy Bundle can be added for free when booking, while the free checked bag promotion requires the use of the FREEBAG promo code.
If you anticipate flying on Frontier a lot in the next 6 weeks, register for Frontier’s status fast track promo as that can earn you Platinum status with enough elite status points by the end of April.

I covered this on Frontier’s Flyertalk forum yesterday. Be aware that, to support these free goodies, Frontier massively raised their fares — often doubling them. So a ticket you previously could have gotten that just got you a random seat assignment and a “personal item” that used to cost $50 now will generally cost you $100. Now, your $100 ticket gets you a carry-on, a seat assignment and a checked bag. Obviously, Frontier didn’t tell the media “the bad part,” hoping — correctly — that they would get positive media coverage for their move. If they stick with this fare structure (they say they want to), it will be an important milestone in US aviation, as it will essentially be the death of the ultra low fare airline strategy. We will see. In the meantime, I don’t think there are too many bargains on Frontier with the doubled airfare costs — especially considering that Frontier is a generally low-quality airline — but maybe some will find these fares useful.
