Quick Thoughts
There’s a good selection of deals available here. Headline numbers are as follows (this is for one way pricing):
- Domestic from 6,000 miles
- Mexico, Caribbean, & more from 7,500 miles
- South America from 10,500 miles
- Europe from 17,500 miles
- Qatar, Australia, India, Japan, & more from 20,000 miles
The pricing and availability varies depending on the route and is only valid on travel from January 12 through February 28, but if you’re interested in a getaway in late winter/early spring and don’t mind traveling in economy, this award sale is worth a look.
Although it’ll be a long journey, being able to book tickets to Australia from only 25,000 AAdvantage miles is a good opportunity, especially seeing as that’ll be the summer there.

If you have travel flexibility, AA usually has excellent domestic award pricing these days. Just last week, I bought a transcon for 6K. I’m kind of surprised they get few accolades for having a frequent flyer program that doesn’t suck. And it certainly makes their credit card sign-up bonuses very lucrative.
I think AA added the change award flight feature, rather than just cancel and rebook. But I don’t think it is as good as Delta as you can’t reprice without changing the flight.
