In the past we’ve highlighted the ability to book one way flights to Europe from only 6,000 points with Virgin Atlantic.
There’s currently an even cheaper way of crossing the Atlantic points-wise courtesy of Miles & More – the loyalty program of Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and more – as one way flights can be booked for the incredibly low redemption cost of only 88 miles.

The Deal
- Book one way flights to Europe with Miles & More from only 88 miles.
Quick Thoughts
Having to redeem only 88 miles for a one way flight to Europe is incredible. Flights are available from Dallas-Fort Worth, Tampa, and Charlotte, with destination European cities including Zurich, Munich, and Frankfurt.
Taxes and fees come to ~$210 which is more than the ~$110 taxes and fees on 6,000 point flights to London with Virgin Atlantic, but this redemption can still provide good value. For example, you can fly from Dallas to Frankfurt on January 6 for 88 miles + ~$210 which compares favorably to the $414 cash cost for the same flight.
Seats.aero offers the easiest way to identify available routes and dates; simply click on the ‘Economy’ column to sort by redemption cost.

Unfortunately there don’t appear to be any 88 mile flights back to the US from Europe. Having said that, there are flights bookable from only 6,045 miles one way, albeit with even higher taxes and fees depending on the route.
As a reminder, Miles & More is now a transfer partner of Rove Miles, with transfers starting at 2,000 miles (not 1,000 unfortunately, although you can transfer in 1,000 increments above 2,000). You can get 500 Rove miles for free when signing up via our referral link.

Other than Rove, does Miles & More have any transfer partners useable by an American?
This definitely has piqued my interest. How is Lufthansa economy? AA economy CLT to FCO last June was literally painful. BUT, I am now fully IN the points and miles game-thanks FM team for making it fun!
Lufthansa is ok – but American sets such a low bar that you’ll be fine on Lufthansa.
Indeed! Economy with upgraded seats on the return BLQ to LAX on KLM was a much better experience than AA.
I flew Lufthansa economy back from Frankfurt to Denver a couple of years ago. It was like being in a sardine can. I swore I’d never fly then again.
Legroom can be tight but it’s otherwise just fine.
When youn highlight something like this address the availability of business and premium economoy on a similardiscount schedule. Also upgradability. Thanks.
It’s worth noting that these cheap 88 miles + fees/taxes fares book into the “economy light” fare class which does not allow for any changes or refunds and includes carry-on luggage only. Definitely a good deal under the right circumstances, but more restrictive than most other mileage redemptions. M&M also offers redemptions with fewer restrictions, but these are noticeably more expensive.
i think we should start writing it as “fees and taxes” rather than taxes and fees, because:
who knows, maybe if it becomes common practice to say fees first the airline companies may think twice before raising it as they wish, due to optics and perception.
