This quintuple points sale is an enhancement of IHG’s existing 1x/2x/3x promotion. With that promo, you earn standard points on your first stay, double points on your second stay and triple points for stays thereafter during the promo period.
This new limited time promo increases your earnings to 5x base points, thereby bypassing the 1x/2x/3x earnings of the initial iteration of the promotion, but only on newly booked stays (i.e. stays booked yesterday or today). If you were already registered for the original version of this promo, you don’t have to register for the 5x. If you hadn’t registered, you’ll need to do that before making any bookings today. Even if you think you registered previously, it’s probably worth verifying that you did indeed do that as it would be a shame to accidentally miss out on 5x points.
Most of IHG’s brands award 10x base points per dollar. That means this 5x promo will earn you a total of 50x on paid stays. If you have elite status with IHG, you can earn up to 10x additional bonus points, while cardholders can earn up to 10x bonus points too. That means that someone with Diamond status who pays with an IHG Premier or IHG Premier Business card for a stay booked by tonight (December 2) for stays through the end of the year will earn a whopping 70 points per dollar. IHG points frequently go on sale for 0.5 cents per point, so at that valuation this promo could earn you a return of up to 35%. That said, it’s not hard to get even better value than 0.5 cents per point, making this promotion even more rewarding.
