Quick Thoughts
It’s good to see another set of Flying Blue Promo Rewards that have representation on both east and west coasts, along with other cities like Chicago, Phoenix, and Dallas, not to mention premium economy and business class options from Vegas and D.C. respectively.
Note that you don’t have to fly to/from Paris or Amsterdam – the hubs for Air France and KLM. If there’s standard award pricing available, you should be able to get the 25% discount when flying anywhere in Europe for 18,750, 30,000, or 45,000 miles depending on which cabin you’ll be traveling in.
When running searches, it’s worth leaving the date field blank as that ensures that the search results are displayed on a monthly basis, making it far easier to see availability at a glance.
Taxes and fees on Flying Blue award flights can be medium high, so be sure to check those before transferring points to your Air France or KLM account.

Frequent Miler and some other websites value AF/KLM miles worth 1.3 cents. I challenge anyone to prove me that. I used these miles extensively for many years and was able to get redemptions at 1.2-1.4c typically, but for the past 2 years went to Europe 8 times but never found redemption better then 0.8 cents. Try PNS to KRK or VIE or PRG anytime in a year in economy and see if you can get better redemption then 0.8. Zero chance from what I see. Thank you, much appreciated.
I got a one-way Premium award to Rome on Air France back in September for 77,000 Flying Blue miles. I rebooked that because the price had dropped after my original reservation. I don’t have my spreadsheet handy at the moment, but for a monetary ticket during that week on Air France, if I recall, my cpm was about 2.1. (I know I could have looked at monetary prices on other airlines, too, but as I only have Flying Blue miles, I compared to AF/KLM prices.) This ticket was not one of the monthly promos.
Thank you for your reply.
I do understand that in premium and business there can be found some values, but my concern is standard economy. We travel mainly internationally, every year to Asia at least once and Europe 3 to 4 times. Additionally, domestically. When we travel, we always go together, whole family so there is no way for me to earn this many miles if I book anything but economy.
I have RT ticket VPS to KRK for next month at my end cost about $450 per ticket. There is no airline awards program which can beat that so I paid cash for it. In June however I was able to utilize Delta to EU and AA miles from EU back to Florida with good redemption (close to 1.5c) in comparison to cash ticket. If I search AF/KLM awards, no matter what day/month/promo or not the redemptions from PNS/VPS to KRK/PRG/VIE are around 0.5c. It is pathetic and this started about 2 years ago.
You kind of hinted the nail on the head when you said you did not look other airlines. I think the valuation of the points can be done 2 different ways: comparing directly the exact flights/airlines vs comparing the miles redemption with cash ticket of other airlines going on the same day, similar time to the same airport. The latter is what makes logical sense unless one is strictly minded to one particular airline to chase status. But again, I travel mostly in Basic economy – status doesn’t apply.
I have 235k miles with AF, not expiring soon, but I am seriously tempted to sell on the market for heinous 0.67c per mile, because for 2 years I could not use them.
PS: any RT AF/KLM (unless it is purely on Delta) award ticket from PNS/VPS to KRK/VIE/PRG has attached $300+ in fees to it. That is already half of cash ticket.
