Capital One miles is offering a 30% transfer bonus when you transfer points to Preferred Hotels & Resorts I Prefer. With this transfer bonus, the ratio becomes 1:2.6, which still isn’t nearly as good as the regular 1:4 ratio from Citi Thank You Rewards.

Preferred Hotels has earned some attention in recent years, thanks in part to its partnership with Choice Privileges and in part due to the excellent 1:4 transfer ratio from Citi Thank You Rewards. When Capital One launched transfers to Preferred Hotels I Prefer, it was pretty underwhelming, comparatively, at a 1:2 ratio.
That’s not to say that you can’t still get some OK deals for your points at the normal 1:2 ratio, but it is hard to get excited about those opportunities if you also have Citi points. The transfer bonus here bumps you up to getting 2,600 I Prefer points for 1,000 Capital One miles, which is better but still subpar.
It doesn’t help that some I Prefer properties are actually cheaper via Choice Privileges, and in some cases, properties that are not available via I Prefer actually are available via Choice. Capital One miles just aren’t as good a fit for booking these properties.
That said, if you just need to top off for a specific redemption or you don’t have Citi points, this transfer bonus might make sense. Keep in mind that Capital One miles post within a few days of purchase, so it would be easy enough to put purchases on a Capital One card to earn miles in short order that could be transferred with this bonus to top off. That’s the main situation in which I’d consider this bonus. Otherwise, I’d pass and pursue Citi points instead.
