American Express Platinum Card® to cut Lufthansa lounge access in October 2026

Amex Platinum cards currently offer access to some Lufthansa lounges for cardholders flying Lufthansa out of Frankfurt and Munich. Unfortunately, that benefit will end on October 1, 2026.

As of the time of writing, Amex Platinum cardholders enjoy limited access to Lufthansa lounges:

• Free access to Lufthansa Business Lounges (with confirmed economy class ticket) or to Senator Lounges (with a Business Class ticket) in the satellite building of Terminal 2 at Munich Airport and in Terminal 1, Departure Area B, at Frankfurt Airport.  Valid only when flying Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian Airlines. This benefit is also available to Platinum authorized users.

That can be a nice benefit or those flying from or through Frankfurt or Munich as it means that an economy class flyer gets lounge access and a Business Class customer gets access to an upgraded lounge. The Lufthansa lounges in Frankfurt and Munich are decent, if often crowded.

Unfortunately, the lounge agreement is ending on October 1, 2026. That’s certainly a bummer for those who have been able to take advantage of this partnership. On the flip side, it probably isn’t a huge deal for the majority of Amex Platinum cardholders since it really only matters when flying from or through those two airports, and those traveling in business class or higher will still have lounge access. They potentially lose a small bump up in lounge quality.

One Mile at a Time points out that Centurion cardholders previously had access to the first-class lounges (but not the first-class terminal) when flying any cabin on a Lufthansa Group flight. Losing that probably stings for some Centurion cardholders, but, again, this is a relatively niche benefit that will matter a lot to a small number of people and almost not at all to most.
