Key Terms
- Terms below are for the United shopping portal; Alaska’s terms are similar (including the expiry date of May 11) other than the spending thresholds:
- During the “Member Appreciation Bonus” offer, which runs from 5/4/2026 through 5/11/2026 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 2,500 MileagePlus bonus award miles on qualifying purchases made through the MileagePlus Shopping mall or from purchases made through MileagePlus Shopping in-store offers.
- This one-time bonus award will be based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period using one of the following tiers: Tier 1 bonus: 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $100; or Tier 2 bonus: 2,500 miles for qualifying purchases of $400 or more.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles. Please see the MileagePlus Shopping mall site fordetails on product eligibility and other restrictions.
- Please allow up to 10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus Shopping account.
- The Tier 2 bonus provides the maximum number of miles that will be awarded.
Quick Thoughts
United’s offer will be better for most people seeing as the first threshold requires less spend than Alaska’s and rewards you with more miles, while the second spending tier requires the same spend but United’s offers more than double the miles.
Don’t forget though that Alaska’s portal—along with many other partner activities—award 1,000 status points for every 3,000 redeemable miles you earn. That includes shopping portal promotions such as these, so if you hit the highest tier of 1,200 bonus miles, that’ll get you more than a third of the way towards another 1,000 status points which could be handy for those looking to earn Atmos Rewards elite status.
Both of these portals have a card-linked in-store offer program, with those purchases counting towards these spending thresholds.
As always, be sure to compare portal rates on Cashback Monitor or Savewise in case you can get a better return elsewhere even when accounting for these portal bonus points/miles offers.
