Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
As reported by Loyalty Traveler, American Airlines is currently offering dirt cheap fares between Chicago and Los Angeles. Fares can be found for only $40.10 one-way for a flight of 1744 miles. That comes to just 2.3 cents per mile (its even a pretty good fare for Elite Qualifying Points at 4.6 cents per EQP). Hurry, these fare will not last long!
Dates for this fare are extremely limited. For Chicago to Los Angeles, I only see the fare on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in November.
For Los Angeles to Chicago, the fare is also available on a couple of Saturdays in November and a Tuesday in December:

Looks like Discover Deals / Sears is now excluding gift card purchases:
“EXCEPTIONS: In-store pickup, ShopYourWay partners, Sears auctions, Kmart.com, MyGofer.com, Craftsman.com, Kenmore.com, PartsDirect, Home Services, SearsOutlet.com, gift card purchases and redemption, layaway, shipping, taxes and other service fees”
Great news! Forgive my noobness, but how can I verify that I will earn 4.6 EQPs per mile on that itinerary? Or is that just if you already have elite status with the airline?
I’m sorry, I made a mistake (now fixed). It should have read 4.6 cents per EQP. On AA, you earn only half an EQP per mile flown when booking discount economy tickets.
Quite alright. I had thought that .5 was the earning rate, but was hoping you knew something I didn’t. Either way, still a fare I’m gonna be jumping on. Thanks for a great website, with great finds like these!
