For anyone with American Airlines Aadvantage miles and a desire to visit my home country, now’s a good chance to burn your miles on a trip to London while flying in comfort.
The Deal
American Airlines has pretty good midweek business class MileSAAver award availability for two people from New York JFK to London Heathrow up until mid-April. There’s then only a handful of dates over the summer before availability picks back up in October.
Business class MileSAAver tickets in the opposite direction are fairly widely available through to the end of June and pick up again at the end of August.
Gary at View From The Wing is reporting similar American Airlines business class availability from their other hubs like Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Miami and more.
Be aware that this is availability on American Airlines-operated flights which avoids fuel surcharges. If you do a regular award search on aa.com, you’ll see business class availability nearly every day of the year. That’s because it includes British Airways flights that impose high fuel surcharges.
To easily filter out British Airways-operated flights, click on ‘Advanced Search’ on the home page, then change ‘All Airlines’ to ‘American Airlines’ in the Options section.
Nonstop to/from London incurs $1K+ surcharges and UK departure tax……and you are out at the airport. Fly nonstop to CDG Paris and take train to London…..and you are IN London.
I live in PHL and am looking to fly to LHR on a Friday in late October and there is no 57.5 inventory on AA metal, it’s on BA so be careful of the fuel surcharges…$500 to go one way but that’s better than the $8,200 they’re presently charging for that flight. There are two AA flights to LHR on Friday evening’s but neither are showing as having available business award space
70k miles from Hawaii for saaver but two of the 3 flights are economy. 110k for all first/business. That’s pretty good, although AA flights to/from Hawaii are usually the most horrible experience of all the airlines.
