Flight non-rawdoggers of the world rejoice! American Airlines has announced today that free high speed Wi-Fi will be coming to the majority of its planes at the start of next year.
To accomplish this, American Airlines is teaming up with AT&T who’ll be sponsoring the feature. They’ve recently been trialing the service on select flights and will be rolling it out (almost) fleet-wide in January 2026. They expect ~90% of its planes to have access to the free high speed Wi-Fi which will be powered by Intelsat and Viasat.
All passengers will need to do in order to be eligible for the free internet service will be that they’ll need to be an AAdvantage loyalty program member.
Delta and United had already announced that they’ll be rolling out free Wi-Fi on flights over the course of the next year or two, so it’s great to see American Airlines finally hop on board with this future feature.

Might be useful – Haven’t flown AA in over 25 years – was siting on 85K for awhile ( had booked family trip to CR during C19 – but reentry to US changed in late Jan 2021 -so cancelled trip). I digress.
Booked flights PDX-AXA (Anguila) for a few nights at SLH and one night at Zemi House in January for B-day/Anniversary trip. Killer deal vs cash 10Kpp – going to do a TS in Orlando and then hit Miami for a few days (P2 has never been). MIA-PDX was 7.5K pp + $5.60
Had Zemi House on bucket – list but stumbled on the new SLH Malliouhana Resort 150Kpp or ~$2K with taxes. So using our FNC on the SLH and HH points on one night at Zemi House.
Cool story bro
American Airlines just took my EP status that was good for 2025 and downgraded me tooto platinum and took away all my points because I made several returns.
The AA announcement stated free would apply to aircraft outfitted with two specific WiFi services. Unless something has changed, 777-300s use a different WiFi service (Panasonic). Not certain about other long-haul aircraft. Perhaps data points will be needed.
With T-Mobile, it’s available now.
Only 4x a year iirc, unless you have their higher tier plans
Max
Wow. What a great deal. Delta offers it now.
