The American Airlines shopping portal is running a referral promotion at the moment to motivate you to encourage your friends and family members to sign up for – and use – the portal.
Your incentive is that you’ll get 500 bonus miles per referral, while the person/people you refer will earn 1,000 bonus miles when meeting fairly easy spending requirements.

- The “March 2025 New Referred Member Bonus” offer (the “Referral Bonus Program”), which runs from 3/19/2025 through 4/6/2025 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), allows a member (“Referrer”) to earn a one-time bonus of up to 5,000 AAdvantage miles when a new member signs up by logging in for the first time to the AAdvantage eShopping mall (the “Site”) using the Referrer’s unique link and makes cumulative qualifying purchases totaling $75 or more (“Referee”) during the Bonus Period.
- This one-time bonus award will be determined based on number of Referees using one of the following tiers: Tier 1 bonus: 500 bonus miles for 1 Referee; Tier 2 bonus: 1,000 bonus miles for 2 Referees; Tier 3 bonus: 1,500 bonus miles for 3 Referees; Tier 4 bonus: 2,000 bonus miles for 4 Referees; Tier 5 bonus: 2,500 bonus miles for 5 Referees; Tier 6 bonus: 3,000 bonus miles for 6 Referees; Tier 7 bonus: 3,500 bonus miles for 7 Referees; Tier 8 bonus: 4,000 bonus miles for 8 Referees; Tier 9 bonus: 4,500 bonus miles for 9 Referees; or Tier 10 bonus: 5,000 bonus miles for 10 Referees.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles. Please see the AAdvantage eShopping mall site for details on product eligibility and other restrictions. Both Referrer and Referee(s) must be in good standing with the Site at the time of fulfillment. Please allow up to 10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus miles to post to your AAdvantage eShopping account. The Tier 10 bonus provides the maximum number of miles that will be awarded.
- Supplies of bonuses are limited for each Referrer: if the same Referrer provides their unique link to more than 10 Referees, only the first 10 Referees to sign up using that Referrer’s link and make qualifying purchases may earn bonuses.
Quick Thoughts
This is a nice little bonus that you can earn for referring people to the shopping portal. You’ll get 500 bonus miles – up to 5,000 miles total – for referring people, while the people you refer will earn 1,000 bonus miles on top of the miles they’ll earn for their purchase(s) through the portal. All they have to do is spend $75 by April 6 which certainly isn’t a stringent spending requirement.
On the off-chance that you’ll be super-successful with your referral endeavors, note that the terms state that in addition to you being limited to earning bonus miles for referring up to 10 people, once you’ve maxed that out any additional people that you’ve referred won’t earn the bonus miles. I can understand Cartera (the company that runs the portal) cutting you off referral-wise, but it seems unfair to penalize the 11th – and beyond – person that uses a popular referral link.
