Key Terms
The terms below are for the United Airlines shopping portal offer; terms are similar for the Alaska Airlines and American Airlines offers.
- During the “Winter Bonus” offer, which runs from 2/7/2022 through 2/16/2022 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 500 MileagePlus bonus award miles on qualifying purchases made through the MileagePlus Shopping mall or from purchases made through MileagePlus Shopping in-store offers.
- This one-time bonus award will be based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: Earn 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $150 or more.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.
- Please see the MileagePlus Shopping mall site for details on product eligibility and other restrictions.
- Please allow up to 10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus Shopping account. Void where prohibited by law.
Quick Thoughts
It could be easier to hit the spending threshold on the Alaska and United shopping portals not only because those only require $150 of spend compared to American’s $200 spending requirement, but because the portals for those two airlines both have card-linked in-store offers available (find United’s in-store offers here and Alaska’s here). Spend on those in-store offers counts towards the $150 spending thresholds, whereas the American portal only offers online purchase options, despite Cartera administering all three sites.
If you’re trying to rack up American Airlines Loyalty Points, be aware that although your base mileage earning through the AA shopping portal earns a corresponding number of Loyalty Points, you won’t earn 500 bonus Loyalty Points by spending $200. Those 500 bonus redeemable miles could still make it worth doing some of the other Loyalty Points deals though.
