Quick Thoughts

In case you’re not familiar with Global Getaways, it’s a feature that Alaska Airlines launched a couple of years ago under its old Mileage Plan loyalty program (now Atmos Rewards). Every quarter, six different destinations worldwide become bookable for a discounted number of points compared to normal. Something that’s particularly notable is that the discount is being given for award bookings on partner airlines, not on Alaska Airlines metal.

The worthwhileness of the deals can sometimes vary widely. For example, flying to Europe from 17,500 points (in this case, Helsinki) can be a good deal; 30,000 points to Munich or Prague is a little less enticing.

We’ve seen some excellent paid fares to Europe recently, so it’s worth comparing award fares to cash rates before booking just in case even these discounted awards turn out not to be such good value.

One benefit of booking these awards through Atmos Rewards is that you’ll earn Status Points towards earning Atmos elite status.

worthwhileness? I think the correct term is worthwhility.
