Barclaycard is sending out a targeted spending offer for holders of their AAdvantage Aviator Red Mastercard. The offer promises 30,000 bonus AAdvantage miles after $15K in spend spread out in $2,500 increments over six months. You may receive this offer either via email or in the U.S. mail.
The Offer
Spend $2,500 or more on purchases using your AAdvantage Aviator Red MasterCard each month from December, 2015 through May, 2016 and earn 30,000 bonus miles.
Key Terms
- These bonus miles are in addition to the AAdvantage® miles you already earn every time you use your card.
- Earn 2X miles for every dollar spent on eligible American Airlines® purchases and 1X miles for every dollar spent on purchases everywhere else.
- Register by December 31, 2015 to participate.
For most people this offer will net 45,000 AAdvantage miles after $15,000 in spend during the six months. That amounts to 3X AAdvantage miles per dollar spent. Even with the recently announced devaluation, that is a very good return on spend.

Did these offers come by email?
Coal here.
I received the offer, but I’m thinking I’m gonna pass. 6 months of manufactured spending is too much for me. I’d feel differently if it was only 3 months.
Yes, not missing the $2.5K spend every month for 6 months straight carries a risk. But not so hard if you are MSing every month anyways. Look at it as a 3x reward for everyday spend.
Received it and wondered if I can use my card to purchase GC without incurring a fee as a cash advance?
Got one. Registered, but not sure if I will do it or will put all my effort into collecting Chase UR point. “Starting in 2016, we’ll make changes to the American Airlines AAdvantage® program”.
Correct me if I’m wrong, those changes to the program seem to steer people to accrue miles through spend than through actually flying….
Nothing 🙁
Got the offer. Yes, it is a good return on spend. I already have almost 200k AA miles but with MSP as my home airport, I have a heck of a time using them because the flights have inconvenient, multiple connections. Much better connections on Delta or Southwest from MSP. And with trying to max out all the other deals currently going on (Freedom x 10 at Amazon, Discover It x 10 w/Apple Pay, etc.) my MS is already on overdrive! I guess that’s typical this time of year. If this AA offer only started on Jan 1 after all the other offers end. I suppose I could figure out a way to MS another $2.5k in December . . . Good thing I own a small business to rack up charges on multiple credit cards.
Never got any target offer from AAdvantage aviator red card. I did get some useless offers from SallieMae card from time to time.
