If you’ve ever wanted to book Lufthansa First Class awards far in advance using miles from a partner program, you’ve been out of luck. That’s because they don’t usually make First Class awards available until just over two weeks out, but your luck has (temporarily) changed.
The Deal
- Book Lufthansa First Class awards using some partner programs such as Avianca LifeMiles more than 15 days ahead of departure.
Key Terms
- Book quickly – this is extremely unlikely to last.
Quick Thoughts
There appears to be some great availability in First Class, albeit seemingly none from the US to Frankfurt.
One of your best options would be to use Avianca LifeMiles – see Greg’s post for more about hacking that program. LifeMiles is a transfer partner of Citi ThankYou and SPG, plus they’re currently giving a 25% bonus for transfers from hotel partner programs.
You’ll need to create a free LifeMiles account in order to search, but you won’t need any miles in your account to find results. There appears to be great availability in First Class in upcoming months, such as a direct one-way flight from Frankfurt to Hong Kong in May with three available First Class seats.
Availability also seems to be open all summer, such as a round trip from Seoul Incheon to Frankfurt in July with four seats bookable in each direction.
As mentioned earlier, it’s highly unlikely that these First Class awards will continue being bookable more than 15 days out on partner miles programs, so it’d be best to book your flights ASAP.

[…] couple of weeks ago, a bunch of Lufthansa first class awards became available for booking more than 14 days out, although none of that included routes to or from US […]
Since Lifemiles is tough at times to book direct JFK to LHR, and one had to book JFK to MUC in First Class LH and then MUC to LHR business Class LH on 2 separate awards, will we still have access to the First Class Lounge in MUC? Thanks
