Carl c, I have a 19 year old son as well. How did you get her a cc? Was it just in her name or did you have to co-sign. I think it is a great idea.

Carl C

About 12 months ago I added her as AU to Amex, citi and Chase accounts and then a bit later applied for a Discover IT student card. We opened a Wells fargo bank account with some money in it ~500.

Beginning about 6 months ago I started trying to churn for her.

9 HP
Approved:
Amex SPG pers
Amex Hilton Surpass
Amex Hilton HHonors
Barclay US airways
Barclay A+
Chase IHG (3x,xxx CL)
Chase BA (today) (3x,xxx CL)

Declined:
SPG Bus
Chase Freedom
Citi Plat select (Citi requested IRS tax form)

She now has a credit score of 740-750. I have been leaving 1-2% credit utilization at statement close to demonstrate low credit utilization. This helps offset her student loan debt that is accruing for college.

Mary Jane

thank you Carl, Even though I haven’t put my son as an authorized user, I may apply for this one for him. Do you know if he get’s declined, if it affects his credit score?

Carl C

Success. Applied for my 19y/o and chase handed out a $3x,xxx credit line. Whoo hoo. Way to help her credit score and % credit utilization chase!

Jeff

I was just approved for the standard offer a few days ago. What do you think my chances are for matching to this new offer?

Max

I have a Q about the BA companion certificates — can they be applied to an itin with an open jaw, and other restrictions on the trip duration or # of segments? A link to some helpful info would be appreciated.
I am also assuming that the qualifying $30K spend must be accomplished in a calendar year, so starting it at the end of the year would then be a bad idea.

DER

SHAWN, U LEFT OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, THE APP LINK???

i did a quick Goog search, no avail yet?

Abdul

I already have 2 cards (other banks) in my wallet with 7K spend to be done in next 3 months… I am wondering the best ways to meet the minimum spend… If I sign up for this card… makes me wonder if I will lose out on completing the minimum spend…

Max

If we assume that each $500 in spend costs $3.95, then the following are the normalized costs/reward.

With the 3X Discover option:
0.263 ($ Spent/USD reward)

With the BA $50K: 0.222 cents/avio
With the BA $75K: 0.232 cents/avio
with the BA $100K: 0.253 cents/avio

Max

Correction: I forgot to include the avios earned with spend.
The corrected numbers in cents/avio
50K offer — 0.213
75K offer — 0.205
100K offer — 0.211

Grif

5 inquiry limit (or any other limit) does not apply.

20 k in spending will earn 120k avios, not 100k 😉

Ryan

anyone seeing the 5 inquiry limit with this co branded card?

Jose Goldstein

Hello Shawn:

I used to have this card and closed it sometime in 2013 (don’t remember exactly when). Do you know how long you have to wait before you can apply for a new one?

Thanks!

Jose
