Update 11/11/21: Just a heads up that the $50 credits are arriving for at least some people via email today. Be careful to keep your eye out and avoid deleting the email. The subject line is “Congrats – $50 toward another trip“. (H/T: Susan in our Frequent Miler Insiders group).
American Airlines and Mastercard are teaming up for an interesting offer: Book an American Airlines flight on AA.com with your Mastercard from 8/23/21 to 9/30/21 (and complete travel by 3/15/22) and get $50 off your next flight. I am a little confused about whether you need to complete travel before you get the $50 coupon, but what is clear is that you’ll want to register before booking.
The Deal
- American Airlines and Mastercard are offering a discount off a future trip when you book a trip at AA.com using a Mastercard between 8/23/21 and 9/30/21 and complete travel by 3/15/22. Register, book during the window and complete your travel by 3/15/22 and you’ll get $50 off your next flight.

Quick Thoughts
This looks like a very nice deal if you’ll be booking a flight on American Airlines during the offer period. What isn’t entirely clear to me is whether you need to complete the booked travel before you get the $50 credit. It kind of sounds to me like you just need to book a trip that is scheduled to be completed by 3/15/22 and then you’ll get the $50 coupon sometime around 11/11/21. It is at least possible that they won’t award the coupon until you complete the booked travel (but if your first trip is scheduled toward the end of the travel window it wouldn’t give you much time to use the code, so I’m not sure).
Keep in mind that you can’t combine these coupons with existing flight credits, you’ll need to make a booking using the $50 coupon as the only discount in order to use it. Still, this should be a nice win for those who can take advantage.

Fyi i received the $50 credit yesterday for a booking I ended up cancelling for a trip credit.
great I purchased a 500+ ticket during the period and never got the email , what was the title of the email please
Congrats $50 for another trip
Email come from AA
Does the entire trip need to be booked with a MC or can the initial qualifying trip be partially paid for with a flight credit?
I don’t know for 100% certain, but I bolded this line under “Key Terms” that makes me think the answer is no you can not partial pay with a flight credit:
Do I have to book round-trip or one-way is okay?
I assume you have to complete the trip before you get the $50 promo code for the second trip, because most AA flights can freely cancellable and you’re unlikely to be offered and get to kee the discount for something you may cancel later.
Mastercard Travel is a total train wreck. if ANYTHING goes wrong you are screwed. They take 24 hours to respond.
This has nothing to do with Mastercard travel. As it says in the post, you book at AA.com using a Mastercard.
Doesn’t say bit do you think MC debit card would work?
It does say so in the full terms — yes, MC debit card works as long as it isn’t a PIN-based transaction (which I’m pretty sure would be impossible to do at AA.com anyway). So MC Debit should be fine.
“2) AAdvantage Member;”-Welp, I’m out.
