Buy Choice Privileges points for 0.74cpp (40% bonus)

No sooner did one Choice Privileges point sale end than another one began. This new sale isn’t quite as generous as points are now on sale for 0.74 cents per point, but that could still make sense depending on your upcoming redemptions.

Quick Thoughts

The most recent Choice points sale that ended yesterday gave a 50% bonus which meant its points could be purchased for 0.69 cents per point. This new sale is a little more expensive at 0.74 cents per point, but that could still offer good value for some award bookings.

Our reasonable redemption level for Choice points is 0.67 cents per point, so it shouldn’t take too much effort to get more value than that. However, if you don’t have any high value redemptions in mind right now, it could be worth holding off on a purchase until you have a need and/or a better sale comes along. Don’t forget that Citi and Wells Fargo points transfer to Choice on a 1:2 basis, so those can be a good alternative if you have a need for Choice points.

Little attention is paid to the Choice program (ditto the similar Wyndham program). But there are certainly good redemptions out there. I’ve noticed two changes Choice has quietly made recently. First, redemption prices now fluctuate more. If you’ve made an award reservation, re-check it regularly to see if prices have come down. Second, Choice — sadly — is now sometimes charging more points for better rooms. Not everywhere, though. It used to be properties might exclude some better rooms from award inventory, but now they also list some at higher redemption cost.
