A new Amex Offer appeared yesterday for Cathay Pacific, offering a $175 statement credit when spending $1,000 or more on airfare. This seems to be targeted and is a good way to get back up to 17% on paid flights if you have it on any of your cards.
The Deal
- Spend $1,000 or more with Cathay Pacific and get $175 back.
Key Terms
- Expires December 31, 2022.
- Offer valid on one or more transactions.
- Offer valid for purchases made directly with Cathay Pacific Airways through U.S. cathaypacific.com or via Cathay Pacific Airways App.
- Offer valid only for purchases where Cathay Pacific Airways is the merchant of record.
- Flight must originate from US, purchase must be made through US Website or US version of merchant mobile app, and transaction must be in USD.
- Excludes the following: (i) purchases in-person at the airport, lounges, and Cathay Shop online, (ii) purchases on-board flights for food, beverage, and WiFi, (iii) standalone hotel bookings and car rentals, (iv) purchases through third parties or affiliated agents, and (v) charges for pet fees, port service fees and animal hold fees, (vi) duty-free pre-flight orders, Marco Polo Club Service Center, air ticket reissuance, flight Insurance, revalidating an air ticket issued by another airline and Asiamiles.com.
Quick Thoughts
One of the most important things to note about this Amex Offer is that flights have to originate in the US in order to trigger the statement credit. The good thing is that Cathay Pacific has some decent fares to Asia from both west and east coasts. If you can find fares that cost as close to $1,000 as possible (most fares from the West Coast are hanging out at around $1200), you’ll be saving 17%.
Cathay has been heavily impacted by the pandemic, so this is no doubt one method they’re using to encourage people to keep booking with them. Round trip flights from the west coast to Hong Kong are selling for more than $1000 right now, so this Amex offer takes at least some of the sting out of the high-ish prices.
