When Chase announced last year that they’d be launching an Air Canada Aeroplan credit card, they opened pre-registration for the card a few months beforehand.
They advised that pre-registering would unlock an additional bonus once the card launched, but at first they didn’t disclose what that bonus would be. They subsequently advised that those who pre-registered would earn the following:
- 10,000 bonus points
- 10 eUpgrade credits.
In order to earn that additional waitlist bonus, customers had to apply by February 15, 2022. Well, it’s now February 15 and as a belated Valentine’s Day gift, Chase has extended the application deadline to March 31, 2022.
That could be particularly useful for anyone who’s still interested in getting the Aeroplan card but needed to wait up to 6 weeks after February 15 in order to fall below 5/24.
Chase's 5/24 Rule: With most Chase credit cards, Chase will not approve your application if you have opened 5 or more cards with any bank in the past 24 months. To determine your 5/24 status, see: 3 Easy Ways to Count Your 5/24 Status. The easiest option is to track all of your cards for free with Travel Freely. |
Note that this extension is only available if you pre-registered for the additional bonus last year. If you missed out on that opportunity, you’ll only be eligible for the standard welcome offer without the additional 10,000 bonus points and 10 eUpgrade credits.
Pleased to say both P1 and P2 received the 10,000 bonus points sometime in the last few days. Thanks Frequent Miler !!
I had been wondering if we had to spend the $4,000 first, but no.
Got this card a month ago, but still no 10k waitlist bonus nor 5 extra eUpgrade credits. other DP’s indicate those should have shown up immediately upon opening the card. when I applied I clicked on the link in the email Aeroplan/Chase sent me that indicated that bonus. P2 is in the same boat.
I am in the same situation, cards arrived today for P1 andP2.
When can we expect to see the 10K points and upgrade certs …?
Me too. Called Chase and they said there is nothing they can do.
My wife and I both got our 10K miles/points. She already has her certs, I am still working on my spending … All good, in other words. We also got 30 (20+10) eUpgrades each for whatever reason.
Is there a chase referral bonus for this card? I just got it and thinking of having P2 apply for the card. I can’t find any referral links/bonuses (seems like there is none?)
I’m assuming you checked here https://www.chase.com/referafriend/catch-all ? If so and nothing shows there, that’ll mean there’s no referral opportunity right now.
Yes, unfortunately nothing coming up. In your experience, if nothing is showing up now, will that mean there won’t be in the future, or do referral bonuses come and go?
Referral bonuses come and go.
If I book an award flight using these 2x50k certificates and then cancel my card before the award travel date will they claw back or cancel my award travel?
Or what If I cancel my card and then have to make a change to my travel plans or cancel my trip altogether? Will I forfeit or lose those 2x50k certificates if I already canceled the card?
Once those 50k certificates are on your account, they’ll stay there even if you cancel your card before you travel or change your travel plans. It’s similar to if you earned 100,000 miles – if you canceled your card, those would be unaffected by your card status.
Hi Stephen. The T&C state, “ An unused Welcome Flight Reward will automatically be removed from your Aeroplan account on the date the Chase Aeroplan card is closed, regardless of reason for closure, or if the credit card account is changed to a different product. Changes or cancellations are allowed according to the fare rules of the flight reward booked. If during a cancellation a Welcome Flight Reward is to be reinstated into the Primary Cardmember’s account and it is discovered the Primary Cardmember has canceled their Chase Aeroplan Card, the Welcome Flight Award will be forfeited”.

So it seems like if you cancel the card you lose the unused Certs. And if you book something and then Vance the card and have to cancel your award you’ll also lose the certificates
You’re right – I hadn’t realized that they worked that way. Sorry for giving you the wrong information before.
Looks like a weak launch.
It’s a weak launch because the people most interested in it are above 5/24. They have a highly specialized card and program tailor-made for people like us and chase won’t let them give cards to the people who want them. Should have gone with citi and made it a Mastercard anyway.
How fast are people seeing the 2x50k certs posting after meeting spend, and where do you see them? Still waiting for mine.
That’s great news. I was about to go for it x2 with P2, but we are working on 3 mega bonuses right now. This will give us another 6 weeks and so make it easier to dive into Aeroplan for the first time.
Thanks for the heads up.
I wish this card wasn’t subject to 5/24.
