While we initially found out about a targeted email today for the $200 bonus, Doctor of Credit reports that some people are getting targeted for a $400 bonus.

Quick Thoughts
This promotion is targeted to select Citigold account holders. Citigold requires $200,000 in cash or investments on deposit with Citi. Keeping that kind of money on deposit with Citi is probably not a good deal in most cases, but Citi periodically offers new account bonuses that some readers may have gone after and I know that in my case I had Citigold status for years after completing such an account bonus when the threshold for Gold was much much lower (though that did eventually drop in my case). If you have Citigold status, keep an eye out in case you get targeted or you can try the link under “The Deal” above to log in and check.
To satisfy the $200K min threshhold, they also include the balances from any associated brokerage account at Citi. So if you have a mutual fund or IRA holding at some other place, transfer $200K worth of it in-kind to your Citi account. No tax event as long as it’s in-kind transfer. I transferred an ETF holding I had with Fidelity over to my newly opened Citi brokerage acct. I am a buy and hold investor who stays invested in low cost index fund so it doesn’t matter where the account is housed.
Citibank so crappy. There Citigold debit card is Mastercard and Costco only accepts Visa to renew memberships online, and Cit wants you to renew with your Citigold debit card to get the credit. Catch 22. Perhaps could call in, but just poor execution by Citibank yet again.
Costco accepts debit cards from all networks. It is only credit cards that must be Visa.
Costco.com doesn’t accept Citi Gold debit card for membership renewal. I contacted Citi customer service and they told me Costco store will accept Citi Gold debit card. I will try that later when the renewal is up.
