Quick Thoughts
The 40K rates appear to be widely available to many European destinations, at least when starting travel from a Delta hub. It’s worth running award searches from your local airport to see what pops up. Note that the travel dates extend into spring break times so this could be an awesome way to travel during school break!
Even though the example in the ad for the promo suggests that you’ll pay either 40K miles or as little as $539, I saw much higher cash prices for the same dates that 40K awards were available. As a result, it’s pretty easy to around 2 cents per mile value from these awards (assuming Delta is your best flight option).
Unfortunately, the cash prices are for Basic Economy. However, the few 40K awards I looked at were for main cabin economy. So that’s another advantage of booking with miles. Here’s an example…

Delta frequently runs these 40K round trip to Europe specials, but they’re still a good deal. If you have the miles and the timing works out for your travel needs, I’d recommend booking it.
