There is a new, targeted Amex offer that gives 4,500 Membership Rewards (MR) points back on a $300+ purchase of Delta gift cards. The 4,500 MR bonus is “worth” $49.50 if cashed out via a Schwab American Express or ~$70 if using our Reasonable Redemption Values. The fact that this is specifically aimed at gift card purchases makes the offer extremely easy to redeem.
My wife found this offer on several of her MR-earning cards, but I was 0 for 10. So, it appears to at least somewhat targeted.
The Deal
- Targeted Amex offer for 4,500 Membership Rewards back on $300+ purchases of Delta gift cards.
- Enrollment is required and gift cards must be purchased at delta.com/giftcards/amex.
Key Terms
- Expires 1/31/24.
- Must first add offer to Card and then use same Card to redeem.
- Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards that are enrolled in the Membership Rewards® program at the time of purchase are eligible.
- Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels.
- Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to that Card. Your enrollment does not extend to any other Cards that may be linked to the same Membership Rewards program account (such as Additional Cards).
- Offer valid online only at US website delta.com/giftcards/amex for e-gift cards & physical gift cards.
- Valid only on purchases made in US dollars.
- If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the additional points. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant.
- In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the additional Membership Rewards points if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it.
- When we calculate the additional points benefit for Amex EveryDay® Card products, points awarded under this offer will not be included.
- Additional points will be credited to your Membership Rewards program account within 90 days after 1/31/24, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase.
Quick Thoughts
Usually, Delta Amex Offers are targeted at airfare purchases directly from Delta, leaving many folks to try and figure out ways to apply it to gift cards or a future flight credit in order to capture the savings. This one is far easier, as it’s targeted specifically at gift card purchases.
The offer is for a $300+ purchase, but it should go without saying that there’s absolutely no reason to buy more than the $300 minimum necessary to trigger the offer.
Officially, the offer is good until 1/31/24, but Delta offers almost always have a maximum redemption limit on them and will often disappear before the expiration date. So, if you’re into this one, I’d advise getting on it sooner than later.
I was surprised to see it on one of my cards because I’d added an earlier 3000 for $300, but I found it on my Blue Business Plus card. An additional 600 points at 2 points per $ for a total of 5100 pts.
Sweet!
Not sure if the Amex offer will trigger if you order via the delta web page to get the extra miles offer – as the Amex offer states ‘Offer valid online only at US website delta.com/giftcards/amex‘
When you click through the Amex offer link, it does not show the extra miles offer…
You’re right, it may not stack and I’m seeing different data points about whether a purchase through the main website is triggering Delta Amex offers. I’ll remove it until we see more.
Any further data points on this? Need to decide today, as the Delta promo’s last day is today. Thanks!
DP: It has been 5 hours since I pulled the trigger and I have not received notification that I had triggered the 15x MR offer. Seems unlikely.
DP UPDATE: After 8 hours I did receive the notice that I had triggered the 15x MR offer. Thus, it DID stack for me.
It’s too late for the delta extra miles, but to share the data point:
Just to test it, I bought a GC on delta’s site to get the extra miles and the Amex offer did trigger – got the 4500MR the next day (still waiting for the delta extra miles though)
Reckon this would count towards MSR? Could use a little bump to get closer to the Biz Gold requirement.
In for $300 on my BBP as a PM — 5100 MR and 2400 Delta total, as opposed to 900 UR points with my typical card I spend for travel.
Are you sure the Amex Offer triggered since you didn’t buy it via the link Amex said to? I would assume it would, and that it would code the same due to being what looks like through the same store with a sort of minor sub-sub domain URL difference.
Also, I thought to get the Delta miles it had to be $400 or more?
I am pretty sure it would work as it did on many previous Amex offers in general. But you are right, it has to be $400 or more to earn up to 7X skymiles on that promo but I think Armol bought $400 as he indicated 2400 skymiles earned as a PM (Platinum Medalion) and that’s $400 x 6 skymiles.
