There’s a new, targeted Amex Offer out that can save you almost 20% on airfare with Delta. There’s something important to note with this one though – it’s for flights booked through AmexTravel.com.
The Deal
- Get a one-time $125 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $650 in one or more purchases for Delta marketed flights booked online at AmexTravel.com.
Key Terms
- Expires January 31, 2024.
- Offer valid only for Delta marketed flights booked directly with American Express Travel online through AmexTravel.com, the Amex App, or by calling the number on the back of your Card.
- Includes Delta marketed flights purchased as part of the International Airline Program or a flight + hotel package at AmexTravel.com.
- Delta marketed flights booked directly with Delta or through other third-party sites and apps, not listed as eligible, are excluded.
- Excludes all other American Express Travel bookings or purchases not listed as eligible.
- Delta marketed flights that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date will not qualify.
- Qualifying purchases must total a minimum of $650 by 1/31/2024, in accordance with these terms, to be eligible for a one-time $125 statement credit.
- Valid only on purchases made in US dollars.
Quick Thoughts
$125 back on $650 spend works out to be a 19.23% rebate which is a pretty good offer if you’re targeted and Delta can get you where you need to go at a reasonable price versus your other options.
It’s a bit of a shame that you have to book through AmexTravel rather than Delta directly as it can lead to an additional layer of complexity in the event of IRROPS. I’m curious if they’ve set up the offer this way to try to help prevent people from gaming the offer compared to normal Delta Amex Offers where you can book direct, or if they’re simply trying to get more people to use AmexTravel.com to book their flights.
One positive feature about this offer is that Delta Amex Offers where you book direct usually have wording stating that your flight(s) need to originate in the US. That’s not the case here, so if you happened to find a one-way flight from another country back to the US, that will hopefully trigger this statement credit provided it costs $650+.

Will it work if you pay with points?
If you pay with points you won’t be spending $650, so I’d assume not.
You would get a charge from amex travel for the cost of the ticket and then you would receive a statement credit for the points
Ah, good point – I forgot that’s how that got processed. My last transaction when doing that showed as ‘PwP AMERICAN EXPRSEATTLE WA’ with the airline listed separately. I don’t think I’ve ever booked cash flights through AmexTravel, so I don’t know if there’s much of a difference in how a regular Delta flight purchase would show up.
The fact that you get the statement credits makes me think that Amex would claw back any additional statement credits from the Amex Offer, but perhaps not.
Darn, I have some delta tickets to buy in the next few months, this would have been nice. 0/1 on biz gold
Just say no. I will never book with AMEX travel again. Well, except for a huge discount, and I’m not sure this one is big enough to deal with the horror that is AMEX Travel.
