Today is the last official day for Delta’s award sale to and from NYC airports. This is a better sale than what we’ve seen recently, as the lowest fares apply to Main Cabin seats (as opposed to Basic Economy) and there are some Comfort Plus, Premium and Business seats on sale as well.
Fares from NYC airports to Europe start at 34,000 miles for economy, 54,000 for Comfort Plus, 74,000 for Premium and 148,000 for Business (all round-trip). Domestic destinations start at 5,000 SkyMiles roundtrip for main cabin from NYC. Most of these prices also work in reverse (to NYC).
Additionally, there is reduced pricing from many other US airports, overall around 20K higher in each fare category. Rates start at 56K roundtrip for main cabin and are available to many European airports. However, since the reverse pricing is available, it can be cheaper to book two separate tickets from outside NYC. For example, you can book BNA – NYC for 5,000 miles and NYC to FRA for 34,000 miles for a total of 39,000 miles. Booking the same BNA – FRA flight on one ticket will cost 56,000 miles.
Dates vary per destination, but are generally April 24 – May 18. The website shows specific cities only being available for a week, but in practice the windows are much larger. Often these sales that “end” on Friday can be accessed through the weekend as well. You have to search for roundtrip fares to access the sale.

Quick Thoughts
It’s bizarre that 148,000 SkyMiles for a roundtrip business flight seems like a good deal, but that’s where we are with Delta. Although the really desirable fares are only from NYC, it’s good to see that there’s more on sale than just basic economy. Main Cabin for 5,000 domestically and 34,000 transatlantic is a legitimately good deal.
If booking from outside NYC to Europe, it’s worth taking a look at the two ticket option, as the sale prices work in reverse. Many of the routes I checked were much cheaper booking a roundtrip flight to NYC on one ticket and then another from NYC – Europe.
I live 10 miles from JFK, so I love this deal. I go to Germany a lot, and 34000 miles to FRA is unprecedented in my experience. To me, this was a one-day sale, ’cause I first heard of it in the FM email yesterday. Anyway, I snagged a booking at 10:30 pm yesterday. Deal seems to be gone now.
Thanks!
If you use the suggested two ticket option sure to through-check your luggage and have them link the ticket numbers in the reservation. Also, be sure to leave enough time to clear customs and immigration on the return.
Great point!
Sorry, a somewhat offtopic topic. When I search on KLM and Airfrance websites for awards, I can only see KLM and Airfrance flights, not other ST partners like Delta. Can someone help me understand why?
Thank you so much.
FWIW, I also found a lot of flights to LHR from MKE, MSN, or CID in Apr/May for the 56K/76K price, so also check local/smaller airports if they are convenient. I did not check other destinations besides LHR.
Thanks for adding those!
