Delta One suites for 50K to Europe w/ Virgin Atlantic miles

Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?

Follow along here!

As reported by The Points Guy, Delta has rare Delta One Suites saver-level availability from Detroit to Amsterdam right now on select dates from late summer into the winter. Your best bet is to use Virgin Atlantic miles to book these flights as they will cost just 50,000 miles + $5.60 one-way to Europe. Since Virgin Atlantic is an Amex Transfer Partner, Chase Transfer Partner, Citi Transfer Partner, and SPG Transfer Partner, it is very easy to put together the miles you need for a ticket. This won’t last, so you’ll want to book sooner rather than later if interested.

The Deal

  • Rare Delta One Suites saver availability between Detroit and Amsterdam, bookable for just 50,000 Virgin Atlantic miles and $5.60 one-way to Europe
  • The Points Guy has example dates, but it is easy to search at VirginAtlantic.com and see a calendar view

Quick Thoughts

Again, this won’t last as Delta One Suites aren’t often available for partner bookings and the price is right in terms of miles. Note that not every Delta One flight that shows up on the calendar is served by an A350, so you’ll want to check the flight details to be sure you’ll be getting Delta One Suites. Availability isn’t incredible, but it’s there on select dates. For example, here is late July into August from Detroit to Amsterdam.

Note that some dates aren’t the A350 — for example, at the time of writing the flight on August 11th is an A350, whereas the option on August 6th is an A330.

Availability gets better in the winter, with quite a few options around the holidays.

The Points Guy has more example dates with availability.

If you’re having trouble getting Amsterdam airport in the destination box, use a trick Greg outlined a while back (See: Book Delta with Virgin Atlantic miles online! (again)). You need to click the “location” icon (in the destination field in this case rather than the origin as shown). Choose the country, and then you can pick Amsterdam and choose “Pay with miles” to search for award tickets.

This is a screen shot from the previous post. In this case, you’ll want DTW as your origin and then choose Netherlands as the country and you should see Amsterdam airport.

Keep in mind that Virgin Atlantic has a very reasonable cancellation fee of $50 for award tickets (and you should be able to cancel for free within 24 hours of booking), so there isn’t much risk involved with booking an award flight speculatively (though your fellow readers might not like you very much if you snag their space :-).

Bottom line

Booking Delta One Suites to Europe with just 50K Virgin Atlantic miles is a great deal. Delta would charge 70K one-way for the same flights (though I don’t even see all of these on Delta.com). Transfers to Virgin Atlantic should be instant from Amex, Citi and Chase, though they may take a day from SPG — so I wouldn’t suggest transferring from SPG for this sale.

[…] Delta One suites were bookable on some routes to Europe for 50K miles through Virgin Atlantic (See: Delta One suites for 50K to Europe w/ Virgin Atlantic miles) — with this transfer bonus, that would be less than 39,000 Membership Rewards points one […]

From detroit? Not too useful for most of the country. Good luck with a saver connection.
