The American Airlines AAdvantage shopping portal is currently featuring an increased payout of 2.5 miles and loyalty points per dollar spent. While that’s less generous than the 3x offer we used to see for GiftCards.com, it’s the best we’ve seen from American Airlines in quite a while now.

The Deal

  • American Airlines AAdvantage eShopping is offering 2.5 miles per dollar spent at GiftCards.com.
  • Direct link to this deal

Key Terms

  • Rewards not eligible on: Purchases made with coupon or discount codes not found on this site.
  • Special terms: Orders over $2,000.00 are not eligible.

Quick Thoughts

GC Galore reports that we haven’t seen the AAdvantage portal offer 3x since September 30, 2024. Unfortunately, it seems like 2.5x might be the new normal in terms of an increased rate for GiftCards.com.

Keep in mind that the 2.5 miles per dollar spent means both 2.5 redeemable miles and 2.5 Loyalty Points per dollar spent. That could make this a deal to keep in mind should you be in the market for American Airlines miles.

Already back to 1 mile per dollar spent

Tried to use giftcards for the first time in a couple years. My orders just get instantly canceled.

Might want to fix this: “We haven’t seen the AAdvantage portal offer 3x since September 30, 2024.” You’d need to be a time traveler to have seen anything at all since Sept. 30, 2024.

Be aware that there are tons of reports lately again about giftcards.com not tracking through the AA portal. So you may need to follow up!

Fwiw, they have been extremely quick about manually crediting (other than waiting 15 days to put in the request). My last couple orders they resolved within a few hours of submitting the request.

YMMV on this… I have three requests that sat unresolved for months (opened for transactions in December). One of them posted in April. The other two I recent got an update that they should be posting soon but they still haven’t posted.

Interesting. Were the orders you’re having trouble with pretty high dollar value? My two quick resolutions were just over $500 each. I also had an order for $270 that tracked correctly this week, so I wonder if smaller orders are under less scrutiny.

Almost none of my gift cards.com orders track, but they do get credited quickly when I submit an inquiry. Usually $500 or less per order, although it’s common for me to submit multiple inquiries in the same week.

I’ve been stuck in my AA loyalty pursuit (picked all the low hanging fruit) and need a jumpstart so this could be great. Nick I think I remember seeing you bought some before. Do you just get $250 visa gift cards and pay the $5.95 fee?

Mark W

The AA portal had 3x at GiftCards.com fairly recently for one day only each on February 2 and March 20 this year. (Both show up on CashBackMonitor’s best rate history: https://www.cashbackmonitor.com/cashback-store/giftcards.com/best-rate-history/) I jumped on the latter and it did pay out. (Definitely worthwhile imo to set AA portal alerts for GiftCards.com to get email notifications for similar future opportunities.)

Also worth noting that there are very widespread tracking issues with GiftCards.com that started around November/December 2023 and have persisted since then. If you open a ticket it usually gets resolved (months later), but a reliable way to avoid that hassle and ensure tracking in my experience is to install the AA shopping browser extension (ideally in a separate browser with all privacy protections turned off and used only for that purpose).
