Quick Thoughts
Before I began working for Frequent Miler, my wife and I attended several FTU events. Before attending our first event, I thought I more or less knew what I needed to know about miles and points and award travel. That first FTU event showed me that the mountain of information I didn’t yet have mastered was still quite a bit larger than the domain I knew well, and I walked away with huge value – so much so that we signed up immediately when the next event came out.
In the years since, I’ve come to really appreciate the connections built at events like these. I’ve often gleaned valuable nuggets of wisdom from private conversations with other attendees at the event and continued to swap tips thanks to lasting connections well after FTU. A weekend with like-minded enthusiasts is fun; while your entire social circle at home likely isn’t filled with miles & points addicts, you can spend a weekend discussing how to eek out another point here or there or how to leverage a benefit that you might not have otherwise known existed. Personally, I always have something new to learn about niche programs and opportunities — it’s hard for anyone to have an encyclopedic knowledge of every domestic and foreign loyalty program, and sometimes it’s helpful to have a reminder of a sweet spot you may have once heard about but forgotten.
Furthermore, Greg and I love connecting with readers and sharing some tips and information and often a trick or two not covered in the blog. And we’re not the only ones speaking — the variety of presenters and topics usually ensures that there is something for everyone. Past events have covered topics like niche frequent flyer and hotel programs, MS – how to do it and what to avoid, top aspirational awards, family travel, reselling, anciliary card benefits, earning and leveraging elite statuses, ways to find the best airfares, industry analysis, etc. There is often even a speaker or two focusing on travel topics unrelated to miles to offer a fresh perspective and remind us that the point isn’t only the points.
If that sounds like your cup of tea, check out the links above to see the list of speakers for each event and come out and see us this summer. You can always keep track of events where Greg and I will be speaking under our Frequent Miler Event Schedule page.
I see a list of speakers but where’s the agenda? Is that link provided?
