There’s a new targeted Marriott Amex Offer out today which is twice as good as the normal kind as this latest offer is giving $200 back when spending $500 rather than only $100 back. It’s only valid at half a dozen of their brands, but there could be a workaround to use it at other Marriott brands.
The Deal
- Spend $500+ in room rate & room charges in one or more transactions at Marriott’s luxury brands & get $200 back with a targeted Amex Offer.
Key Terms
- Expires December 15, 2023.
- Offer valid only on room rate and room charges at the following Marriott Bonvoy participating hotels in the U.S. and U.S. Territories, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean: The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels & JW Marriott.
- Reservations must be made online at Marriott.com, via the Marriott Bonvoy App or by calling 1-888-236-2427.
- Excludes all other Marriott brands: Marriott Hotels, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, Marriott Vacation Club, Delta Hotels by Marriott, Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts, Westin Hotels & Resorts, Autograph Collection Hotels, Design Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, Tribute Portfolio, Gaylord Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Protea Hotels by Marriott, Fairfield by Marriott, AC Hotels by Marriott, Aloft Hotels, Moxy Hotels, Marriott Executive Apartments, Residence Inn by Marriott, TownePlace Suites by Marriott, Element by Westin, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, City Express by Marriott and Vistana.
- Excludes gift card purchases.
- Not valid for online retail purchases, hotel amenities, or purchases of Marriott Bonvoy points.
- Qualifying purchase means a purchase at a participating Marriott International luxury brand made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and which is in an amount totaling at least $500 USD as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Card Member Agreement.
Quick Thoughts
This Amex Offer is fairly restrictive seeing as it’s only valid at six of their brands – The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels & JW Marriott – and only at their properties in the U.S. and U.S. Territories, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. However, the return on your spend is very good seeing as you get $200 back when spending only $500 which shouldn’t be hard at these brands.
This offer can even work on award stays at these brands if you end up charging $500 or more to your room via meals, spa treatments, etc.
There’s another workaround if you have any of these properties where you live or where you’ll be visiting by mid-December. Provided they have Marriott gift cards and know how to process them, you could buy a $500 Marriott gift card from the front desk at an eligible property to trigger the $200 statement credit. You can then save that to use at nearly all of Marriott’s brands – not just these six luxury brands. If you happen to have a physical Marriott gift card already, you can ask the front desk to reload that card instead which could be useful if they don’t have any cards in stock themselves. You might note that the terms exclude gift card purchases, but provided you buy them from a front desk that’s always worked in the past. That exclusion seems to refer to buying Marriott gift cards online as those don’t trigger the Amex Offer.
Did 500 at Ritz via a Marriott GC reload. Did not receive an email saying offer used. Will wait a few days and msg support.
Did you get credit yet?
Nope – I’ll message them tomorrow
I would like to stay at JW Marriott around the Christmas holidays (after the 12/15 expiration date). If I prepay for the stay now (therefore the charge appears before the expiration date), do I still get the $200 credit. I think I would but wanted your opinion.
Yes, provided you can get them to charge you before the stay, that would work.
Offer activated on Plat. Stayed @ RC Tysons Corner and final bill was $516 and did not get $200 credit ☹
did it ever come through?
if you live in Orange County California. in my stay in ritz laguna niguel, i separately purchase $500 GC at gift shop. i got back the $200 credit (worked for me). i should have save 85k free night stay, resort fee, valet parking if i have known that this will work.
Do I have to have a stay? Or just walk in and purchase a gift card?
You don’t have to have a stay – buying a gift card from the front desk should work provided they have gift cards and know how to sell them.
My offer isn’t nearly as good, spend $1000 get $200 back.
How do I become eligible if I don’t receive the “targeted” offer, or can I? I have Amex Platinum as well as Amex Bonvoy and I don’t see this in either of the “Offer” sections for the cards.
There’s no way to get yourself targeted unfortunately. Having said that, keep an eye out on your cards as Amex Offers sometimes get rolled out to more people as the weeks go on.
I have an existing booking with a best flexible rate that happens to fall within the timeframe of the offer.
Would that still work since presumably I would be charged upon checkout (which will be within the timeframe), or do I need to re-book?
I’d like to avoid re-booking as the prices I booked under have increased substantially.
Provided the hotel hasn’t already pre-charged a card, you’ll be fine. Just make sure you update your payment card if necessary to the one that you’ve loaded the Amex Offer to.
If the hotel has already charged your card (unlikely if you’ve booked a best flexible rate), you could ask them to refund that card and charge whichever card you’ve loaded the Amex Offer to.
Thank you very much! I thought that might be the case but thought I should double check my thought process. 🙂
any idea if these brands in ny sell gc?
Will this stack with the $200 FHR credit ?
how do you plan to stack? certainly can’t use marriott gc on amextravel site
Potentially. The initial booking won’t work as the FHR credit is only valid on prepaid stays which won’t code as an eligible Marriott property. However, if you use the card the Amex Offer is loaded to for incidentals and subsequently charge $500+ to it, that should work.
Does anyone have a good method on using these gift cards? I’ve probably stayed at half a dozen in the past couple years and only one knew how to use my gift card to pay for the room. They end up giving me a “we’ve already charged your card on file” spiel.
I used gift cards one time and had them applied when I checked in. I was told that since my gift card was less than the total that it could be applied before check out.
There used to be 4 luxury hotels in Boston where you could buy gift cards. They all are now directing me to purchase online.
I called the ritz today and they told me they have them
They have them at the spa, not the front desk.
Would that still count for the credit?
I don’t know.
Wife had $200 version, I had a $150 version.
I had $150, but luckily I had it on my Bonvoy Brilliant card.
The good thing about AMEX US is that same offer shows up on both of my AMEX cards, and I can choose to assign which offer to which card. Marriott offers definitely go to my Bonvoy Brilliant but Green Card still very good for hotel stays 3X rewards.
I got my offer today on my AmEx Bonvoy Brilliant, but it was for $150 off $500. Have a Ritz stay coming up in November, so will be perfect.
Anyone know how region locked these offers usually are? Would it work in Asia and Japan (yes, I read the terms, but not sure if anyone has experience with the amex offers still working)
No regional specificity, so it will certainly work anywhere worldwide in one of the brands specified.
The terms state that it’s only valid at participating hotels in the U.S. and U.S. Territories, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Are you saying that’s definitely not the case based on your experience with past Amex Offers working at any property worldwide?
Dang, hadn’t looked at the terms in detail. I think you are right and Singapore will not qualify…
