DirecTV is out with an offer to earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles with a 24-month DirecTV contract for a “SELECT” package or above. This offer may be churnable (sign up, wait for miles to post, cancel and pay $20/mo termination fee, next household member signs up, etc.) — though that is almost definitely not worth the money/effort unless you already value the TV service DirecTV provides.
The Deal
- 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles with new DirecTV service and 2-year contract
- Direct link to offer
Key Terms: (H/T: Points, Miles, and More)
- You must be a new customer, or have not been a customer within the past 24 months
- It will take the account being active for 60 days and then 6-8 weeks after that for the miles to post
- A 24 month agreement is required (with a $20/mo early termination fee)
- The Select package or higher is required
- You must provide your AA number when calling in for the offer
More Information
According to View from the Wing, a SELECT package is on sale through May 20th for $90 per month for the first year, which includes a Genie HD DVR and up to 3 additional receivers as well as installation in up to four rooms. It looks like there is a delivery fee of $19.95 and there are likely a number of other bundled costs/taxes/fees. However, it looks like there may be a package price of $50/mo for the first year and then $90/mo thereafter.
Of course, that is before they tack on their full suite of fees and all of the associated taxes. If any readers have signed up under this type of deal before, let us know what the full price was for monthly service in year 1. You can view the offer terms and see plenty of vagueness — notably the existence of “certain add’l fees & chrgs” (they even tried to hide the word “charges” by leaving out the vowels – ha!) :
Final Thoughts
Be aware that after previous promotions, some people have reported trouble with the miles posting properly. Make sure to get your AA number attached to the offer when you call in to order. Furthermore, TV Service isn’t cheap. This offer isn’t going to get you an amazing deal on your TV service. However, if you’re going to pay for TV service anyway, and especially if you were already going to pay for DirecTV service, why not take them up on enough miles to fly from Cairo to Tokyo in Etihad First Class?
You can view full terms at the offer page, but for those who like reading the fine print, I have copied some of it here:

Be careful with the AAdvantage/DirecTV 50,000 miles offer.
I signed up for DirecTV on 4/15/17 after receiving an email from American Airlines AAdvantage on 4/12/17 that said “Act now and earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles when you switch to DirecTV”. I signed up for a qualifying package (Choice) with a two year contract. On May 9th, I received an email from DirecTV that said I am getting only 25,000 miles but I should get the miles within a week. When signing up for service, I was careful to say which offer I received (50,000 miles) and never heard anything from the representative that I would get fewer miles than what was in the offer. As of 6/23/17, no miles have posted to my AAdvantage account.
I have called DirecTV a few times and they claim to have initiated “escalation tickets”. The first rep that supposedly did this must have lied as there was no record of a ticket. I have also called AA but they say it’s DirecTV’s responsibility to release the miles for posting into the AAdvantage account. I think it’s a major scam at this point.
Does the select $90/mo package include internet ?
[…] Get 50k AA miles with new DirecTV service & contract: When I click the link, the offer initially shows 25K AA miles. After a minute or two, the offer refreshes to show the higher bonus. 50K miles is more generous than what we normally see for DirecTV sign up incentives. The current “promotional” pricing is slated to end May 20th, but the 50K mileage payout could end sooner. If you’re interested, consider taking advantage sooner rather than later. […]
You might want to update the article as early termination will result in $20 per month for each month remaining on the agreement at the date of termination. That’s possibly $360 in termination fees if you wait for the 6 months before churning.
Hi Segun — the early termination fee is in there 3 times — once in the first paragraph, once in the key terms, and once in the copied terms at the bottom in bold. I certainly tried to make that fee clear :-).
No where near as good of a deal as the United 40k offer at the beginning of the year when they were locking in $50 price for two years including 4 receivers. Lowered my cable bill by $70 per month plus got 40k United miles… which actually posted rather quickly.
Wow, when did the United offer end? I can’t believe I missed that one, ugh!
It ran from October until January. For some reason none of the blogs picked up on it.
“This offer may be churnable (sign up, wait for miles to post, cancel and pay $20/mo termination fee, next household member signs up, etc.) ”
So you’re saying they consider the person the customer and not the address correct?
So if you have the 2nd person call they won’t say sorry this address was just under contract under 1st person’s name, correct?
