Chase launched a new transfer bonus today, this time giving a 70% bonus when transferring Ultimate Rewards points to IHG One Rewards. As is always the case with transfer bonuses to IHG though, this one can largely be ignored.

Quick Thoughts
If Chase offered a 70% bonus to pretty much any other transfer partner of theirs, we’d be excited. However, there’s a key reason that transfer bonuses to IHG – even of this size – aren’t very enticing.
That reason is the price at which IHG frequently sells its points. Although its most recent sale ended last week, IHG often sells its points for 0.5 cents per point. If you buy points during one of those sales, you’ll get two points for every one cent. With this Chase transfer bonus, you’ll only get 1.7 IHG points for every one Ultimate Rewards point you transfer. That means you’d do better to cash out Ultimate Rewards points for one cent per point and buy IHG points outright when there’s a sale, although that’s a terrible value option for your Ultimate Rewards points too. You’ll do much better to save your points for a higher value redemption.
