GiftCards.com back on airline portals; targeted Capital One Shopping offer for 20% back

5

GiftCards.com is back on airline shopping portals — that may or may not have been the case for a while now, but we just noticed it and thought it may be notable for some readers who may have missed it. Furthermore, some members of the Frequent Miler team received an email offer today good forĀ 20% back at GiftCards.com — just be aware that Capital One has snuck a term into email offers limiting cash back to a max of $250 on a single transaction.

The Deal

  • GiftCards.com is once again on airline shopping portals. Furthermore, some have been targeted for 20% back via Capital One Shopping (your mileage may vary — check your email for an offer)

Key Terms

  • You’ll typically only earn rewards on an order size up to $2,000
  • Note that Capital One Shopping may limit you to no more than $250 back in a single transaction (meaning the real maximum is a $1,250 order)

Quick Thoughts

The fact that GiftCards.com is back on airline shopping portals will probably be most notable for those chasing some sort of status where such purchases may matter. For instance, you can currently earn 1 American Airlines miles per dollar spent at GiftCards.com, which also means 1 Loyalty Point per dollar spent. That’s not top of credit card earnings.

That said, it’s worth checking your email for a targeted offer from from Capital One Shopping. Both Greg and Stephen received email offers today good for 20% back at GiftCards.com. The email suggests buying Delta gift cards, but in practice offers like these are generally good for anything the merchant sells that would otherwise be eligible for portal rewards.

GiftCards.com has a current promo code (PUMPKIN) that offers 10% off on a number of brands. If that stacks with the Capital One Shopping deal, that would be an effective discount of about 28% if you valued Capital One Shopping rewards at full face value. See this post at GC Galore for more.

Pay close attention to portal terms. Most portals will note that you can only earn rewards on an order size of up to $2,000. The Capital One Shopping emails also have fine print at the bottom noting a maximum of $250 back on the email offers. I’ve earned more than $250 back numerous times when clicking through from the desktop site and there is nothing in the website terms and conditions noting the cap, but it is now there in email and I did recently have them deny me more than $250 on a purchase that should have earned significantly more (I’m still following up on it). I’d recommend not exceeding an order size of $1,250 if you’re buying through Capital One Shopping.

Be very careful about the C1 shopping portal and using discount codes. I had several large purchases in the past and they tried to deny them saying that you canā€™t earn cash back if you use a discount code which is just plain BS

I pointed that out and showed them in my screenshots the C1 shopping tool inserted the discount codes. Only then did they agree to award the cash back. C1 does offer really good cash back amounts but be prepared to fight for it and always take copious screenshots.

Definitely new within the past two days. I’ve been waiting for this since citi merchant offers has a 4% cash back offer at the moment. The cherry on top would be if they come out with a discount code on the visa giftcards too!

My terms in the 20% email says: “In addition, you may not earn more than $250.00 worth of Shopping Rewards in any single transaction.” I take this to mean I can break up the transaction to do more. For example, I suppose this means I can buy a giftcards.com general gift card for $1,000 and then use that card to buy gift cards that are 10% off and double dip the 20%?

Iā€™m not getting the 10% to stack on Visa cards. Any other code floating around?
