Update 12/27/21: This deal that we’ve seen in previous years is back again (it seems to come around each December). What used to be known as Microsoft Office 365 is now branded as Microsoft 365 family, but it is still a 6-user subscription to the office suite bundled with a $50 Amazon Gift Card for $99.99

The thing to know about the deal is that based on what I’ve read at Slickdeals, it sounds like activating this subscription will move your subscription to being managed by Amazon rather than managed by Microsoft (assuming you had previously subscribed through Microsoft). Some commenters at Doctor of Credit have suggested that activating the Amazon-purchased subscription replaces your current Microsoft subscription and you may lose remaining time, though I read multiple reports at Slickdeals saying that the Amazon subscription added to their subscription end date, so I’m really not sure. Best to read through the pages of comments at Slickdeals yourself if you are concerned.

Keep in mind that Amazon will auto-renew your subscription unless you turn that feature off (which I recommend doing because this deal comes around once or twice a year and you should be able to extend your subscription with it without paying full price). Original post follows.

Update 12/4/19: This popular deal is back again. We’ve seen it a couple of times previously. As noted below, you can buy this deal and redeem the code to extend your Office 365 subscription by a year.

Update 7/19: This deal is back again. We’ve added this to our running list of Prime Day deals.

Amazon is offering a Microsoft Office Family 365 Home subscription (6-user subscription) for $99 and get a $50 Amazon gift card. While $99 is the regular price for Office 365, the $50 gift card makes this a solid deal for anyone who normally pays for a subscription. Note that the last time this deal came around, it sold out pretty quickly and later came in and out of stock, so if you don’t see it available the first time it might be worth checking back.

The Deal

  • Get a Microsoft Office 365 Home subscription plus a $50 Amazon gift card for $99.99

Quick Thoughts

We’ve seen Office 365 go on sale for $60 now and then and even $55 at one point, but those sales don’t come around all that often. Getting the $50 Amazon gift card bundled makes this an excellent deal for those who value the gift card close to its cash value. Of course, I wouldn’t recommend buying this if you wouldn’t ordinarily pay for this — and with the utility of Google Docs, I imagine most casual users may no longer have a need for an annual paid Office subscription. However, for those of us who need Office for one reason or another, this is a good deal on the subscription.

Keep in mind that you will not be able to pay with an Amazon gift card since an Amazon gift card is included in the deal.

Just clicked on the link and it’s 149.00 for the 1 year subscription and the $50.00 gift card. Not much of a bargain….

Will.I.Am

Same here.

Sydney

Hmmm.. Bought it but cannot add it to an existing Microsoft Subscription
Update: Success! Had to cancel my automaic renewal on my current subscription. And it went through. Good old Microsoft. And thank you FMI.

Jeremy

Monoprice has the personal version (1 user) for $50, so for those that don’t need multiple users you’re better off not worrying with the gift card.

ktc

so you can activate the subscription any time, say a year later, for one year’s service? Is there an expiration date for activation?

Jake

Also worth noting you can still purchase one time fee office licenses from Microsoft.com. Last I checked it was $150 per license. Doesn’t come with onedrive storage though.

Shawn

The deal appears to be sold out.

Ben

Showing $100 for home and $150 for Home with the Amazon GC. Makes no sense.

Paul LoBo

I couldn’t get it to apply either Citi or Chase 1 point deal. Still a good price. Thanks.

Andy

My subscription was month to month through iTunes so it won’t automatically extend it. Have to wait until my month expires apparently before I can apply the code. Still a good deal though despite the inconvenience.

ktc

can you buy it and activate later? say 1 year later?

Dr.Bob

The renewal worked for me. Got the code, went into account and applied code which extended my subscription by another year plus there was an additional 1 month for using auto renewal (which I had on anyways) so 13 months for $49.99. The gift card for $50 charges separately so that’s a wash ($50 gift card for $50)
