Quick Thoughts
Transferring Skywards miles to Marriott isn’t something that would normally be recommended as you’d be getting poor value for your miles; not only based on the relative value of the miles to Marriott points, but also due to the 3:2 ratio.
However, where this expansion of the partnership could come in handy is if you have Emirates miles that are set to expire soon and no plans to redeem them. As a reminder, Emirates miles expire after three years, but with the added restriction that you can’t extend their life simply by transferring more miles in. The only way to stop your miles from expiring is by either having Platinum status in the Emirates Skywards program or by having an Emirates credit card.
I recently had 500 Skywards miles expire, but this new ability to transfer on a 3:2 basis wouldn’t have helped me as you have to transfer a minimum of 3,000 miles and transferring in more miles to top that up in order to transfer to Marriott wouldn’t make sense. However, if you have 3,000+ miles set to expire soon, being able to retain some value from them by transferring to Marriott could be very useful.

Well we have 5,000 pooled EK miles – but no way to unpool them.
Bummer
Can pooled EK miles be transferred to the family head?
I’m the Family head – but I couldn’t do the transfer from me or P2.
If anyone knows how I would love to hear.
Thanks for the great tip!
Singapore as well. Different ratio.
