This morning’s Thrifty Traveler Premium email alert brought to our attention a great fare war going on flights to Hawaii from many cities around the US — on United, American, and Delta (with deals varying by city). Use Google flights to search for dates, and don’t forget to check the airport codes for multiple islands to find all the best deals (HNL, KOA, ITO, OGG, LIH). I’ve used example dates below, but there are many months available for most cities (mostly March to May and August through the fall).
Note that the American and United tickets are not Basic Economy based on my test searches. The Delta flights are in Basic Economy, but that still includes a free carry-on and personal item (but no seat selection). Main Cabin was available as a $35 upgrade on the routes I checked (which should include seat selection I believe).
Prices are a bit cheaper using airfare metasearch site Momondo, though you’ll still find great pricing through traditional OTAs like Expedia, Priceline, and Orbitz (though note that some flights are showing in one and not the other — check multiple sites after finding your prices via Google Flights). Some examples follow — check your city with Google Flights or Thrifty Traveler for a more complete list of cities. Some examples follow. Click the images to go through to the OTAs. Note that you should have 24 hours to cancel penalty-free when booking through OTAs, but check the terms of the OTA you’re using (and you may want to stick with known entities like Expedia, Priceline, and Orbitz if flexibility is key for you).

Bottom line

There are many additional cities available — head over to Google Flights to check city pairs and dates (and see our guide to How to find great business class fares with Google Flights for tips that are also applicable to economy class).
