Hilton has launched a new promotion which is the most disappointing promo I remember seeing from them in quite some time. They usually run solid but not incredible promos, but they’ve earned a D- for this new one due to a distinct lack of effort.
The Deal
- Hilton Honors is running the following promotion:
- Earn 4,000 bonus points per stay on resort stays
- Earn 2,000 bonus points per stay on other stays
- Direct link to registration.
- Direct link to FAQs about the promotion.
Key Terms
- Offer valid for stays completed May 1 – September 5, 2023 (“promotion period”) at any hotel or resort within the Hilton Portfolio. Hilton Honors members must first register at HiltonHonors.com/PointsUnlimited prior to completing a stay within the Promotion period.
- Registered Hilton Honors members checking in before May 1, 2023, will receive Bonus Points for their stay if the stay is completed on or after May 1, 2023, and prior to or on September 5, 2023.
- Registered Hilton Honors members will earn 2,000 Bonus Points per stay during the promotion period or 4,000 Bonus Points for a stay at a Resorts property. The full list of eligible Resorts can be found here.
- There is no limit to the total amount of Bonus Points that may be earned during the promotion period with this offer. However, there are restrictions on the number of Base Points that can be earned on a single stay at certain brands.
Tips & Ideas
Historically Hilton has offered fairly good promotions like double and/or triple points or x,xxx bonus points per night even on award stays. This new promotion is disappointing because in many cases you’ll earn far fewer bonus points than you would with those other types of offers.
That’s because the bonus points you earn are awarded per stay. As a result, earning 2,000 or 4,000 bonus points for a one night stay isn’t bad, but anything longer than that results in a steadily declining return on a per-night basis.
There is one bright spot at least – this is valid on both paid stays and award stays. Getting at least some points back when redeeming them for an award stay is always nice to have.
Hilton has helpfully produced an FAQs page we’ve linked to above which answers a lot of questions that people might have about the promotion, so that’s worth checking if you’re wondering if your upcoming stay will be eligible.
They had 2.5k per stay bonus in Q1 2022, I stayed inexpensive property for a night, then stayed somewhere else another night, often at their competitors. Then I’ve gone back and forth.
It’s interesting they brought back when they have a hard time keeping up with housekeeping, although it’s only 2k this time. This type of promo encourages one night stays at inexpensive properties.
Since they significantly hiked award prices for 5k/nt properties, I won’t go out of my way to stay at Hilton group this time.
