Update: Get an even better deal. See: WOW: Get those Bose for a net ~$27 (sorta). Or tons of other deals amplified.. Thanks be to Larry in the comments below.
If you’ve been following the Prime Day Deals at Amazon, you’ve seen that there have been some great deals that get better if you are able to apply the recent targeted offer for 20% off when paying with at least 1 Membership Rewards point. If you already used that up or weren’t targeted, there is a second similar offer with coupon code AMEXSWP20PD. Even better, as you may have noticed in an earlier post, both deals are taking off more than 20% sometimes. That’s because in some cases, the codes are taking 20% off the original price rather than the discounted price — resulting in some great deals. This post has some – be on the lookout for more. Note that the Amazon links in this post are affiliate links, but remember that you may be able to earn portal rewards in some categories. Also note that if you check the historical pricing on camelcamelcamel.com, you’ll find that all of the deals linked below are at historical lows.
You may recognize the headphones above from a Quick Deal last night (See: Great deal: Bose QC 25 for $85.40 w/ stacking promos). In that deal, I said the headphones would come down to $85.40. What I hadn’t paid attention to at the time of writing was the fact that while both the Apple and Android versions are currently on sale for $125 before the 20% discount, they have different “original” prices. The Android version (used in my previous post ) had an original price of $198 — thus the 20% off discount was taking off about $40 for a final price of $85.40 before tax. As you can see above, the Apple version has an “original” price of $279 — and thus the 20% off code is subtracting $55.80 from the sale price of $125, bringing the final total before tax to $69.20. That’s a pretty amazing deal on this set. And it’s not the only one out there.
Second 20% off promo
Dan’s Deals notes that there is a second Amex promotion for 20% off that is separate from the one we wrote about a week ago. This one requires you to pay with at least 1 Membership Rewards point and add coupon code AMEXSWP20PD. Word is that this deal may work for people who maxed out the previous 20% off promo and/or may work for those who weren’t targeted for that one. There’s no guarantee — but it’s worth a shot.
Some example deals
I’m listing some example deals below. I’m including both the “original” price and “Prime Day” sale price crossed out so you can see the math on the discount coming from 20% off of the “original” price rather than the sale price — making for a deal that’s even better than 20% off the Prime Day price. I verified that at the time of writing, each of these deals worked with the original 20% off Amex deal when paying with at least 1 point at the “final price” shown below. A number of these are products I own or similar models, which is why I included them.
- Oculus Rift + Touch Virtual Reality System:
Original price $399Prime Day sale price: $349Final price: $269.20 - Robot Roomba 671 Robot Vacuum With Wi-Fi:
Original price $349.99Prime Day sale price: $229.99Final price: $159.99 with inflated 20% off (We have another 600-series model. My wife loves it. I hate the noise it makes when I’m trying to write….so we got a second one — before this sale 🙂 - Ring Video Doorbell Pro, Works with Alexa:
Original price $249Prime Day sale price: $174Final sale price: $124.20 with inflated 20% off (noted last night that my parents have a Ring doorbell that I gave them as a gift and they love it as there is no peep hole in their front door and they like to see who is there even when they aren’t home) - Instant Pot DUO60 6 Qt 7-In-1 Multi-Use Programmable Cooker:
Original price $99.95Prime Day sale price: $58.99Final sale price $39.00 - Coravin Model Limited Edition Wine Preservation System:
Original price $304.97Prime Day sale price: $174Final sale price: $113.90 (This is an interesting device that allows you to “access” your wine without popping the cork. I own one of these (resold a quantity of them). It’s not perfect, but it’s not bad. As I was typing this, I got up to pour a glass from a bottle I first tapped about two weeks ago and it tastes perfectly good. I haven’t gotten the claimed months out of a bottle, but neither am I storing in the correct conditions. At this price, I think it’s worth it if you prefer not to drink an entire bottle in one sitting. This is a better price than what I was stacking when I was reselling them). - Segway miniPRO Smart Self Balancing Transporter 2018 Edition, 12.5 Mile Range, 10 MPH of Top Speed, 10.5-Inch Pneumatic Air Filled Tires, Mobile App Control, Customizable LED Lights:
Original price $499.99Prime Day Sale Price $399.99Final Price: $299.99 (I own one of these and one of the Xiaomi-branded Ninebot. They are a ton of fun. We ride them on an old rail trail and they handle the bumps just fine and we live in the mountains and they handle hills without an issue. When our son really won’t fall asleep for a nap, my wife puts him in the stroller and pushes him down the rail trail with this and he falls asleep almost without fail. The Segway-branded version at $299.99 is a very good deal.). - LG V35 ThinQ – 64 GB – Unlocked (AT&T/T-Mobile/Verizon) – Aurora Black:
Original price: $899.99Prime Day sale price: $599.99Final price $499.99 - All-new Sonos One with 50 Dollar Amazon Gift Card – Smart Speaker with Alexa voice control built-in:
Original price $249Prime Day Sale Price $199Final price: $149.20
There are many, many more deals possible. In order for this promotion to stack, the item you’re buying must be shipping and sold by Amazon. Sold by someone else and fulfilled by Amazon will not work. Here is a link to all Prime Day Deals. Look for items with significantly higher “original” prices for stacking opportunities (keeping in mind the max discount of $100 — so max original price of $500 to max it out).
Many of the above deals are great for personal use but could be equally great for resale purposes — you could knock out a chunk of minimum spend while leaving yourself plenty of margin to recoup your money on a number of those items.

Fantastic! Worked for me on assorted gift cards, and I had already done the original 20%.
The 20 percent off seems to work on Amazon gift cards if you have some merchandise also in your cart. I just got the Bose headphones and added a $221 Amazon gift card and got the full $100 off, so the final total was $246 for a $221 Amazong GC plus the headphones (so effectively $25). Plus the Amazon Amex 3x offer gives me about 750 MR points for the purchase.

[…] Prime Day’s not over yet, so this new Amazon Amex Offer appears to be designed to keep the buzz going. It’s listed as 3x points, but it’s actually 2 bonus points per dollar spent in addition to your normal earnings. I don’t have the Business Blue Plus card, but if this Amex Offer’s available on that card, I’d expect it to earn 4x – 2x as standard and the 2x bonus from this offer. […]
