I believe these offers are historical high public offers on either card. They both provide excellent value for meeting the spend. The Platinum Delta SkyMiles is a much more rewarding card long-term for Delta flyers who can maximize the use of the companion certificate and need help with MQMs for status qualification, but the signup bonus on the Gold card makes it an attractive offer if you have never had the card before. Note that both offers exclude those who have or have had the card at any time in the past. I’ve never had them, but curious how (in what sequence) could I apply for them both and the chance of approval? Are they both personal cards? OTOH, these offers sound great but as my family is based CLT, not sure how best Delta miles can be utilized in our case. We fly to west EU countries mostly and within the US and/or Canada. Any advice?
I get a lot emails about other cities having some very cheap flights (in such cases you don’t even need to chase CC bonuses) even for summer travel, but CLT hardly ever has any good deals. I bet it’s due to the tight monopoly of AA.

I have gold delta card. If I upgrade to platinum delta will I be eligible for the new offer??
No. You might have an offer to upgrade, but it probably isn’t for 70K. Offers this good are usually only sign up bonuses for a brand new account. Once you upgrade your Gold to the Delta Platinum card, you will be someone who “has or has had this product”, so you would not be eligible to receive a sign up bonus on it in the future.
On the flip side, if you open a new Delta Platinum card instead, you might still be able to upgrade that Gold card to Platinum sometime in the future. The upgrade language usually says that you can’t receive an upgrade bonus if you have previously received an upgrade bonus for the card — the upgrade bonus doesn’t usually exclude anyone who has ever had the card before.
The signup bonuses usually exclude anyone who has ever had the card before. The upgrade bonuses only exclude people who have received an upgrade bonus before. Always check the terms you’re offered to make sure that matches the terms of your offer.
