Good news if you were planning on taking advantage of Hyatt’s summer 2020 promotion which is offering a 15% or 25% points rebate when redeeming points – I received a rebate from my recent award stay in less than a week.
The fact that the rebate is posting so quickly is noteworthy because the terms from their latest promotion state that the rebate should be expected 6-8 weeks after your redemption. If you were hoping to book other stays in the near future, having rebates post so quickly might eliminate the need to transfer over as many Ultimate Rewards to your World of Hyatt account.
In my case, we recently stayed for a week at a Hyatt Place just outside of Cleveland near Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It’s a category 1 property, so it only costs 5,000 points per night, meaning our stay cost a total of 35,000 points.
It was our first stay during Hyatt’s other summer promo which offers 2,500 bonus points on your first stay if you have status (including Discoverist from having one of their credit cards). Those points showed up within a day or two of checking out.
Despite Hyatt being reliable, I’d set a reminder for a couple of months time to make sure we’d received the 25% rebate on our award stay. I needn’t have done that because only five days after checking out the rebated points hit my account.
As you’ll note, there are a couple of entries there relating to the rebate. The percentage you get back in rebated points depends on whether or not you have a Hyatt credit card. If you don’t, you get a 15% rebate. If you do, you get a 25% rebate.
It looks like Hyatt posts these rebates separately, so all points redemptions get a 15% rebate, then you get a separate rebate worth 10% of the points redeemed if you’re a Hyatt cardholder.
Our award stay cost 35,000 points, so the 5,250 points entry relates to the standard 15% rebate. The separate line item for 3,500 points relates to the additional 10% back I get for having the World of Hyatt credit card. Note that you get the additional 10% back even if you have the older Hyatt credit card.
As I mentioned earlier, it’s good news that the points rebates post so quickly because it means you might not have to transfer over as many Ultimate Rewards to your World of Hyatt account if you’re booking more than one award stay and your first stay is coming up soon. Having said that, there’s no guarantee that the points rebates will post within five days for everyone. With reduced travel happening at the moment though, I can’t imagine that Hyatt’s systems are straining under the weight of people making award bookings, so hopefully the 6-8 week period mentioned in the terms is a caveat rather than an expectation.

We’d been in Cincinnati for a month and were about to head back east. My wife teaches virtual field trips online, so we headed up to Cleveland so she could visit a few museums there to get some content for classes this fall.
My 25% points bonus posted in 7 days. I booked an upgraded room with points (much cheaper than the cash rate), then used the Chase Offer on both our WOH cards for addtl $63 off on-property spend.

There has also recently been a 10% cashback offer for Hyatt on some Chase cards.
I looked at this 15%/25% offer, but I find cash purchases so cheap, I am doing that for now.

Does the rebate apply to SLH bookings made with Hyatt poonts? Also if the booking was made prior to the offer announcement, is it still eligible for the rebate?
Yes, redeeming points for SLH bookings will earn you the rebate. And yes, provided your stay is within the actual promotion dates, you’ll receive the rebate even if you booked the stay before the promo started.
8 days for me on a recent award stay. My 2,500 bonus points were also lumped in with points from my F&B purchases (not sure if that’s standard for Hyatt bonuses, don’t do a ton of Hyatt stays)
