One of the lesser-highlighted benefits of the IHG Rewards Club program has been the free books you could download to your Kindle device or app. That benefit will be getting highlighted even less now as IHG has announced that they’ll be ending the benefit from December 31, 2019.
The number of free books you received from this benefit depended on your IHG Rewards Club status level:
- Club – 1 free book bi-annually
- Gold – 1 free book per quarter
- Platinum – 2 free books per quarter
- Spire – 3 free books per quarter
I was excited when IHG first announced this benefit a few years ago until I realized its limitations. I initially thought you got to choose any Kindle books, but when downloading the IHG app and taking a look, I discovered that you get a choice from a limited selection of books. For example, I just went to look at what options there are at the moment and there’s a selection of only 22 books.
This therefore isn’t a huge loss for me, although I’m sure there are some IHG Rewards Club members out there who enjoyed getting to experience different books each quarter for free.
This benefit ends at the end of the year, so you can still download books until then based on your status level.
[…] If you’re an IHG Rewards Club member and you enjoyed your free Kindle book perk, there’s some bad news for you. The benefit that allows members to download free books to a Kindle device or app is going away, as first reported by Frequent Miler. […]

I actually used this benefit from the start. It seemed to me though that it was the same books offered from one quarter to the next and most I didn’t have an interest in but did find a few gems…
