IHG promo for September: Earn 2x points from your second stay

IHG One Rewards has opened registration for a new promotion that’s awarding double base points. There’s a limit to its usefulness though because it’s only valid from your second stay and it’s only for stays during the month of September.

• To participate in the ‘2X Unlimited’ Promotion (the ‘Promotion’), an individual must have a valid IHG One Rewards member account and be invited to register for the Promotion. Members can pre-register for this Promotion starting 1 August 2025 until 31 August 2025 (the ‘Pre-Registration Period’). Members will be able to stay and earn IHG One Rewards Bonus Points under this Promotion beginning on 1 September 2025 and ending on 30 September 2025 (the ‘Promotion Period’). Members who did not register during the Pre-Registration Period may register for the Promotion during the Promotion Period. A member can only register once. By registering for the Promotion, a member accepts these Terms & Conditions.
• After registering for the Promotion, a member can earn 2X bonus points on stays, starting on the 2nd stay in the month of September, that meet the definition of a Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay, during the Promotion Period. The bonus points earned during the Promotion can be used toward Reward Nights, redeemed for merchandise or used for other redemption opportunities, as permitted under the IHG One Rewards Member Terms and Conditions. The time needed for awarding points can vary with each promotion, so please allow up to six (6) weeks for any earned bonus points to be posted to the recipient’s account.
• For the purposes of this Promotion, a ‘Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay’ is defined as a minimum one (1) room night stay, during the Promotion Period, at a participating hotel booked under a Qualifying Rate, with a spend of at least $30 USD (or local currency equivalent) in Eligible Charges per night. Room nights that fall outside of the Promotion Period are not included, and room nights that are part of a stay that was completed prior to registration for the Promotion are also not included. Stays booked using Rewards Nights or Points & Cash are not Promotion-Eligible Qualifying Stays for purposes of this Promotion. Bookings made through online travel agencies or other reservation sites such as booking.com or expedia.com also do not qualify under this Promotion. If more than one member who registered for the Promotion checks into the same room, only one member is eligible to earn points under the Promotion for those nights that qualify. If a member books more than one room on the same night, the member will receive credit towards this Promotion for only one of the rooms that also meets the requirements of a Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay.

Quick Thoughts

It’s a shame that IHG has made this promotion so restrictive in that you earn zero bonus points on your first stay and then in a best case scenario only have an absolute maximum of 29 days on which you can earn double points (assuming your first stay is on September 1).

That’s not to say you can’t earn a bunch of bonus points in September though. IHG has a separate promotion awarding triple points on stays at the following five brands:

• EVEN
• Avid
• Garner
• voco
• Atwell Suites

These two promos should stack, so if your second stay in September is at one of those five aforementioned brands, you’d earn the following:

• 10x base points
• 10x bonus points (from this new 2x promo)
• 20x bonus points (from the 3x promo at specific IHG brands)
• 2x-10x bonus points (if you have IHG status)
• 10x bonus points (if paying with an IHG Premier or IHG Premier Business card)

That means that someone with Diamond status and an eligible IHG credit card would earn a total of 60x IHG One Rewards points in that scenario which is a very generous return. That’s on top of the rewards you can earn by clicking through from a shopping portal before making your reservation.
