IHG Rewards is running a promotion for the first month of the New Year giving 5,000 bonus points when staying two nights.
The Deal

- For the “Stay 2 Nights. Earn 5K Points” offer (“Offer”), you must be an IHG Rewards member and must be invited to participate in the offer. After receiving an invitation, you must register your member number in advance in order to be eligible for the Offer.
- Once you have registered, 5,000 bonus points will be awarded to your IHG Rewards account after completing two qualifying nights at participating IHG Hotels & Resorts, Mr and Mrs Smith properties, or participating Six Senses properties (as identified on each hotel’s booking page), during the period from January 1, 2022, through January 31, 2022 (“Offer Period”).
- No retroactive credit will be given for nights prior to registration.
- The time needed for awarding points can vary with each promotion, so please allow up to 6 weeks for the bonus points to be posted to your account.
- To qualify for the 5,000 bonus points, each of the two nights must be part of one or more Qualifying Stays.
- A Qualifying Stay is defined as a minimum 1-night stay booked under a Qualifying Rate, with total spend exceeding $30 USD (or local equivalent) per night.
- Only one room per member per Qualifying Stay will be eligible. If more than one member checks into the same room, only one member is eligible to claim the night for purposes of this Offer.
- This exclusive Offer is valid and applies to the original recipient only.
- Members must make any promotional inquiries by 60 days from the end of the Offer Period.
- The Offer can only be redeemed once per member during the Offer Period, and a maximum of 5,000 IHG Rewards bonus points can be achieved.
- The bonus points awarded through this Offer are not Elite status qualifying.
- Members who are invited to participate in this Offer may also participate in other IHG offers to the extent they qualify for such other offers.
Quick Thoughts
Although you need to stay two nights in order to earn the 5,000 bonus points, those don’t have to be consecutive nights as part of a 2+ night stay. You could instead book two separate one night stays if that’s what your upcoming travel plans require and you’ll still earn the 5,000 points.
This might be a targeted offer. My wife and I both received emails about it and so were able to register, but the terms of the offer suggest that it might only be open to select members. There’s a generic registration page, so it might be possible for any IHG Rewards member to register. Update: As per Grant’s comment below, this offer is targeted.
If you’re considering booking a paid IHG stay, Rakuten is offering 9% cashback or 9x Membership Rewards for IHG right now (December 19). That rate probably won’t last long, so it might be worth booking ASAP.

I was also informed that I was not eligible.
Looks like it is targeted. I tried to register but got the error message: “We’re sorry, this offer is not available to you. A list of current offers can be found on the IHG® Rewards Club Offers page. We look forward to having you as a guest.”
